Take it slow....
Head gaskets are fairly straight forward to do.
Remove the accessories that you think may be in the way.
Drain ALL the water/coolant out of the motor
Pull the inlet manifold off
Pull the rocker covers off
Crack the head studs
Pull the heads off
Clean the old gasket off
Ensure the surface is clean and flat
Replace gaskets
Replace heads and accessories
Done.
If you are going to keep it for a long time, and keep it original/standard HSV I would
consider rebuilding the engine and getting a set of change-over reconditioned heads.
That way while the motor is out you can tidy up the rest of the crap easier. Detail the engine-bay, paint the motor, etc.
Let us know how you go with it.
**Wish i coulda bought it!
No worries mate thanks for the heads up, ill keep you up to date

I'm pretty sure you just make the area as clean as possible, using contact cleaner or similar, then place the new head gasket on.

No, dont use gaskiet goo on the headgasket.
Also, remove the exhaust manifolds completely (they get in the way) and for reassembly, undo the flange at the front of the cat and the clamp just forward of that.
Put some kind of assembly lube on the head bolts before you put them back in. And if you have to remove the rockers, keep them in the correct order or they will not go back on correctly.
no worriesthanx guys, wit the head bolts should i use loctight on them?
