    Default Painting VN Calais.

hey guys, decided im going to paint the bottom half of my car very soon, (As some loser attatched the trolly strips with what appears to be silicon, which has rooted the paint, otherwise it wouldnt be happening for atleast a month or two..) so anyway, how much paint do you's think i'll need? all im doing is going over the silver bottom half, so bumpers, bottom of my doors, and the little bit of my quarter panels, and skirts (After i get them...)

    Cheers, Pushin.

probably would only need 2ltr's or so, however your probably better of just buying a 4ltr tin, it will work out cheaper in the end.

Are you going arlyic or 2pac?

thinking i'll go acrylic, will it turn out alright? don't have a gun for 2pac.. its just i wanna do it myself (im 17 aye, and want an apprenticeship in spray painting, done a little bit before, like a motorbike frame and stuff...just wanna learn..) i've got a mate who's gonna show me what to do and stuff, if it turns out shit, i'll ask my mums boyfriend to do it.

Will acrylic paint be okay? will it fade quicker or any shit like that??

    thx

EDIT: OR!! i could just forget about doing it myself, go 2pac, and get my mums boyfriend to do it...

acrylic is easier to work with but u have to buff it to get a shine , any run or marks , just wait 20 minutes and then sand it and start over .if u keep a good polish on it it will last for years ..2 pac is for lazy ppl who dont want to buff a shine cause most ppl are happy with the shine of the gun .. but if u get a stuff up .its a lot harder to fix..ohh u need a nice hot humidity free day for acrylic ...2 pac , u can a;; most paint when its raining ..

oooh okay so i should invest in one of those buffer things? and buff the shit out of it after its all painted?

& Also, my front doors have started to drop a little bit, less then 5mm's, but its just a bitch having to slam my doors all the time, and im sure its not doing any good. seeing as i want to take my doors off to paint them, can i fix this problem? or have the mounts moved?

    Cheers

just grab the back of the door and reef it up to compensate for the worn hinges. thats the only way to move them because the hinges are welded to the car and the door

I wouldn't mind betting the door hinge pins are worn. You can get new ones, last time I checked they where only a 2-3$$ each.

ah thought of that myself, but then i was like hmm, but how would the pins alone effect that, but hey, im taking the doors off anyway, so replacing the pins wont hurt Cheers mate!

okayyy. went to autobarn. got a price for 4L of primer, 4L acrylic thinners, and 4L of acrylic paint, roughly $500.. BUT i need a paint code before i can get the paint. i've found websites with paint codes and stuff, but i dont see a picture of the colour? anyone know of any decent blacks and have the code and a picture of a car or something to show what that paint will look like? (i'd hate to get paint and start doing it and have it look like shit )

okaayy then, yet ANOTHER problem with this car. everytime i do something i find another problem, how convenient.

so i've started painting it, all i have left is the drivers door, and the rear passenger door (Which was bogged, and the trolley strip ripped off a nice section of the bog, which had rust underneath it... -.- )

But thats not really an issue.. did my front passanger door.. the top door pin was a bit of a hassle, ended up getting it out though, but i (or maybe not, maybe thats why the pin was such a pain in the ass to remove..) bent the mount.. (on the door) which i later worked out after i'd put the door back on and couldn't get the pin through the top part of the hinge.. tried moving the door up and down while hitting the pin, didnt work, the door won't up or down at all.. when its nearly closed, its noticably dropped probably about 2cm from the back, the top corner of the door hits the plastic between the two doors on its way to closing.. how would we suggest i get this pin in? i was thinking maybe take the bottom pin out.. pull the door up untill i can hit the pin in, and the hope the bottom hinges will line up.. good or bad idea? Cheers.

Ohh yeah, shearer. my door pins cost me $8.50 each >.< and the bumper clips were like 22 or 28 each(for the individual clip that goes onto the body of the car...) bloody rediculous.

4L worth of paint is more then enough to sppray a whole car, as far as undercoat well, your using acrylic paint, dont forget that youi'll need a shit load of thinners, for paint clear lean the gun etc, i would get two 2L's worth of color and clear, make sure you have enough 1500 sand paper to sand paint the base coat (color aka black lol) to remove any type of dirt in the job, makes clearing a whole lot easyer, and plus less dirt in the clear the better makes it easyer to cut out later on, you could use upto 1200griot paper to rub down the clear if you have any mishaps (runs, dirt, orange peel looks ****ed) to get a nice finish.. then, cut and buff the shit outa it, dont forget to polish it to seal of the clear coat that you applied

Cheers Anyone got any ideas for the hinge?

+ That guard, i'm assuming its a stone guard or something, underneath the front of the car.. the shitty plastic thing thats half destroyed, if i take that off, what am i risking?? I'm assuming theres a reason its on there..

right behind the front bumper, like kind of under the radiator. has two flaps that point towards the ground. i'm assuming its a stone guard, to stop stones coming up into the engine bay & doing damage? if so, could i take it off and put some mesh across the opening or something?? Cheers.
