Just wondering what kind of oil/viscosity is best for V6 buick?
Synthetic any good. I am about to buy a VP engine that has 89,000 on it from original.
I am wanting to use something really good so it lasts to a ripe old age. I just use average 20-50 and it sound smooth as and not a problem, tried that castrol magnatech for a while but that was a bad idea as it rattled and clicked like teeth in a can.
Suggestions?
Cheers.
Well i have a 1990 VN with 120,000km original and i've always used penrite 15-40 seems to be working for me. I haven't really experimented with any others yet.

ide run it on 20/50 ive been running 15/40 and its just a little thin but the engines still running even with extra heat from the turbo i run .ive just bought a new filter and some 20/50 aussie brand gulf western for an experiment to see how it goes was cheap enough to try it out normally only run valvoline the last lot was castrol and its still the same colour as the day it went in so its handle the abuse well

Beware of low km, make sure heads dont have sludge through them.
Lift the oil cap off and have a peek inside.
Also make sure the heater works. I have been caught before with a very low k car that a gramps owned to go to the local shops to get his paper milk bread etc.
Didnt get time to warm up. Good luck.![]()
Castrol Edge Sport 25W-50. Its under $40 and my rebuilt buick runs so smooth on it. I have tried valvoline XLD classic 20W-50 and i felt it dident run as smooth.
shell helix 20/50 change on colour not km's (looking dirt loose it) seen vn's with 500,000 on clock still running strong like this. valve stem seals give up before the rings.
Making and running DUAL CHIPPED ECU SINCE 2010
Should be good. the loacation is Wallan so no short trips. On a farm too by the looks.
He said he removed it some 10-12 years ago for a V8 and has been sitting in the shed ever since. I will ask for a pic inside the rocker cover. I am hopping it looks like mine all silver under the manifold.
I used Castrol Magnatec in my VN and it ran fine. It was always a bit noisy from the day I got it and never noticed any extra noises with this oil.
I'm gonna use Castrol Edge 5W-30 for my next oil change.
If computers have no doors or fences, who needs Windows and Gates?
Valvoline dura-blend semi-synthetic was rated as one of the best oils which went though all sorts of tests. I would use it in my SV6 but i need a full synthetic.
I got pics of the inside through the oil cap plus under the oil cap it self. looks awesome
probably Gona try castrol edge sport 25w 50 or maybe penrite as i hear they are good.
