Default VN fuel pick-up problem (?)

    Hi all,

We have a problem with our Commodore when we go to start it. If the fuel level is below quarter full, and the car is parked on an angle sloping to the left (like normal street parking, sloping into the gutter), the car just won't start. If you push the car to flat ground, it will start like normal, and will run until the tank runs out of petrol. Similarly, if we keep the car on a slope but put 10 litres of fuel in it, it will start fine.

We thought this might be a petrol tank problem to do with the float, so we replaced everything in the tank but the problem persists. We even replaced the whole tank, but it hasn't fixed it. We've been to at least three mechanics, still with no luck.

We're not going to spend considerable money on this because it's not worth it anymore, but just wanted to know if it's something simple that we've overlooked, or if anyone has had the same issue.

    Can anyone help us?

    Thanks.

hey mate i know uve replaced the tank but check the fuel return line going back into the tank is actually returning fuel into the swirl piot inside the tank...when a tank is low on fuel all remaining fuel surrounds the fuel pump in the swirl pot ensure pump is located correctly in swirl pot and return line fuel is dumping fuel in there corectly

It's either the fuel return not going into the swirl pot or the swirl pot may have come loose. Take out the fuel pump and sender and have a look inside the tank. When you put the sender and pump back in it has to be rotated as you insert it to make sure it is in properly, it won't just go in without doing this if the swirl pot is in the right place.
