Thermostat

hey guyss.

i just installed a new thermostat. when i took that metal housing thing that has the bleeder valve on it, there was no thermostat.

which way does the thermostat sit?

the spring side inside that metal housing with the bleeder valve on it.

or the spring side pointing into the engine?

so, the shorter end of the thermostat should sit in that metal pipe that has the bleeder valve on it?
