I had the exact same problem in a VN wagon. Easy fix was to put the engine in my Hilux and run it on straight LPG and be able to say "F*** You Petrol"!

The fuel was pissing out of the bottom of the Pollution Control Carbon canister for some reason when flogging the car in city traffic and also parked nose down. I ended up blocking the breathers off under the canister to drive it for a few weeks until the engine came out.

Another suggestion is to install LPG so you can say "F*** You petrol" too!

I have the same problem, Hop out of the car and can smell the fuel.
My car tends to drink alot of petrol around town and I wonder how much this contributes to it.
