Default Car wobble at high speed (from 85 km/h)

    Hey,

When I drive at high speed, I feel some wobbles in my steering wheel only
Need advises to find the pb and to fix it, by myself if it's possible or with a mechanic (how much then)
Near new yokohama tyres + new balanced + new wheel alignement
    New rear shock absorbers
front & rear suspensions and all joints in quite good conditions
    bearings seems good too.
Front pad near new and no wobbles when I brake = no warped disc

My car has always wobbled since I got it. I tought new tyres and wheel alignement wouldl resolve this pb.

so what could be the others causes? what should I check? what should I do to fix it?

    thx

Are all the 4 tyres the same? .. I had 2 different ones at a stage...And it would cause the car to wobble at High Speeds 70kmh ++

Another one is.. Jack the Car up...and the shake the Tailshaft.. If it has to much movement, it may cause the wobble..

Are all 4 tyres Tightly but firmly on the car right?
    Any tyres Buckled..or damaged ?
    .
If its all good, I'd be checking your Transmission Mount.. I believe, when it gets old.. It can cause wobbleing at a high speed..

For a car to wobbel, somthing is bent..loose..or worn, but could be more..
    So check:
    Engine & Transmission Mounts
Check Drive Line shaft.. Should be nice'n and straight to the diff.
Check the Tail Shaft.. if it moves to much, it can cause your wobble..
Give your Diff a service, chances are its getting old..and worn.
Check all the Rubber Mounts to (Bushes)

    good luck

humm interesting, I found some info on internet and as I have also a "clunk" noise when going from (N) to (R) (I tought it was my gear box, quite common noise on commodore vn/vp), I probably need to check my drive shaft / U joint!!

    damn it!

nah man, i'd take it somewhere to get checked, like a driveline specialist.

    Agreed,

This is something that has be to taken seriously.. Last thing you want is something failing..And could potentially kill you or someone else.

I wouldnt expect more than $500 to fix what evere it is tho

verdict is: a bad uni joint for the clunk and bad balanced wheel for the wobbling.

    So GOOD news!

I just went to balance again the wheels (for free of course!!)

The guy ask me around 180 to change the uni joint. 20$ the uni joint on ebay so aound 160 for the labor. That means 80$ per hour, that's the usual price.

Is it easy to do it alone or not? do you need special tools?

yeah unis are around $25 each from repco/bursons (remember that you need 2), so in reality he is probably charging you $60 for the uni joints and $120 for the labour. i wouldn't think it would be a 2 hour job for a mechanic but you never know. everything looks easy, then when you do it yourself it takes hours .

I check on internet, there is a famous "How to.." on youtube really well done to show you how to do the job.
It's not so hard to it. But I am a bit afraid with the center bearing as the video I saw is good for a 4wd without this bearing.
As I don't have a lot of tools neither stands of good jacks, I decided to rely on the mecanic. Will see.
