Noise in Air Con

Here is a question for any Air Con Experts out there.
I have had a high pitched noise coming from the air con for ages. It is driving me insane.
It was service a few years back and regased. It still is cold when on but for this noise.
I have taken it to the guy that serviced it and he said he doesn't know and it will take a few hours to sort out. Charging me by the hour ....not.
I have spoken to another air con tech and he said it sounds like the Orpheus valve, which is situated up behind the left hand side of the dash.
Is there such a thing , or are they having a go at me and if there is how can it be fixed.
They have said the part is only worth a couple of $ but you need to let the gas and and regas once fixed. Is this correct.
Would appreciate any feedback from anyone that has had the same problem or that is a air con tech.

Did you end up finding out what the fault was? I have a problem that sounds the same in my VZ
