Hi Everyone
Im sorry if this problem has been repeatedly posted but im desperate for some help before i set a match to our car. I got from my father in law a blue 92 V6 VP Exec Commodore Station Wagon and it is plagued with problems right now. Over the last 12months something in the wiring or immobilser is dieing. I drive down the street and the light on the dash lights up telling me to press the remote button and it beeps at me WHILE IM DRIVING!! It has also gotten to the stage now where i lock the car, the little red light flashes, i then unlock the car after work and it wont disengage and start. Sometimes it doesnt even unlock my car so i have to crawl in through the boot!! Im assuming all this is the immobiliser? I asked my mechanic if there was a way to rip it out and he said no because its "part of the car"....
I replaced the battery in the remote when i got the car and the remote doesnt seem to be the issue. I got a brand new battery for the car in Dec 08 and i shelled out for a new altinator three weeks ago. We thought this fixed the issue....well so my mechanic said and tonight...its crapped itself again. It unlocked but this was just the central locking, then nothing. I wasnt impressed after just coming out of a 12hr shift at work! It did it two weeks ago and i got it towed home and as soon as the tow truck lowered it to the ground the red light flashed again and it started. I disconnected the battery to see if this rejigged it somehow but it didnt. Some days it is fine and then some days not. I didnt get the key to turn the immobilser off and i know there is a switch or something near the passenger side door but i would like to turn it off forever. I dont care about central locking. I just want to know when i knock off at 1am or whatever that my car will start! Is it the immobilser that is causing these issues or wiring?? I have no clue. Please help me. I have had to leave it parked at work tonight because i couldnt be bothered waiting for a tow truck when i live ten mins down the road. I dont want to keep shelling out to fix what COULD be wrong with it if it isnt the issue and there is some way of disarming the immobiliser for good.
Take it to a auto electrician or call a mobile one and get them to remove all the alarm/immobilizer junk.
I was in Sydney and called a mobile electrician to com rip mine out when it was playing up in my VN Calais, took him about 2 mins tops and he even fixed some other minor issues while he was there for free. Only had to pay the $80 call out charge.
I think your mechanic saying "its part of the car" is another way of saying "I don't know how to fix it", just like when I asked a mechanic a few years ago if he can fix the crappy noise coming from me car he says "its a old car, they are all noisy" simply because he couldn't be bothered.
Call around and get some quotes. You will find some genuine guys that know what they are doing to fix it and do it fast, I've seen it with my own eyes.
You will find for example, when you have a dead starter motor and take it to the mechanic he will send it around the corner to the auto electricians and charge you double what it cost him.
It's possible to disable the anti-theft DIY. If you pull the left hand side kick panel and air vent (I think that has to come out also - it's been a while) you will see the cover plate for the anti-theft switch wiring. Drill the heads off the rivet(s) for that to access the connector for the switch. Unplug it and connect the two pink with black trace wires together with a jumper wire.
Alternatively, the anti-theft module is above the vent duct above the glovebox. Replacing that with a good used module and matching remote(s) might fix the problem.
There are alot of people who have had the override switch fail. Maybe look into that (it might be a cheaper fix to replace that, as opposed to ripping the whole system out)

To be honest im suprised no one has stolen it yet! Apart from the paint beginning to peel due to hot Victorian summers (ggrr) it runs ok....when it starts. I wanted to fix it up but if i cant sort this problem out then im going to burn it. I think RACV laugh when they get the call outs for my jobs with the car....tow trucks...road side.... :X
Can anyone suggest a good auto elec for Victoria?
Can you just pull out the lock in the passenger side and replace it with a switch? My remotes weren't working 100% awhile back before i bought a new remote and haven't had any issues since. I don't have the key to lock and unlock the bloody thing so if i have any more problems i will pull it out and turn it off.
We tried to bypass the wires but decided there was to many wires to think about. I was thinking of taking some photos of the wires so someone on here can see them and check that we tried to bypas the right thing. SO im going to go to Holden tmw morning and see what they say as a last resort. Whether they tell me they cant fix it or even if they can guarrentee me that if i buy a key to turn it off, it will fix the issue.
I had a similar issue with my 92 VP Berlina.
I removed the cluster from my dash one night (like ive done a number of times previously), so I could look how it would fit in a VS Statesman dash (dash conversions are fun).
Anyway, I put the cluster back in, connected all the plugs etc and started the car. The car ran fine, however there was this really annoying beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep sound coming from behind the glovebox.
Thinking I had broken something, I removed the cluster again and checked everything, put it back in, no luck.
I took the car to my mechanic the next day and he said it was the stupid immobiliser module.
The fix: he spent a few hours removing half my dash to get his arm and hand in behind and up into the area that the immobiliser sits and unplugged one of the 2 plugs going into it. Fixed it perfectly.
I did my dash conversion a few months later. The immobiliser is still 'half' connected...
Oh and I use a 3rd party alarm/immobiliser system btw.
