Hey guys I recently bought a used Holden Commodore VN V6 (1991)
For some reason the Transmission (Automatic) is very slow when cold. Takes about 1min to get from park/neutral to reverse and about 40 seconds to get to Overdrive (Blue D) and 2 seconds into normal Drive with a noticeable jolt of power.
I was stuffing around in the engine bay because it seems to stall WHILE DRIVING the vehicle when i take my foot off the accelerator and apply breaks. I don't know if this is could be the trans is not disengaging quick enough and the stalling is being caused by the breaks being depressed, but it seems to shutter and kind of missfire before it stalls.
I doubt this has anything to do with anything, but its a column shift. (bloody easy to quick shift, but not until the car is warmed up lol)
I did the puta test today and it came back fine (Got code 12 thank god) and all was good today.
While I was under the bonnet I realised on the plate it said:
ENG: LD2 (Does this mean I have a VN Series two?)
TRANS: MD8
I just want to know whats going on here please.
Thanks (:![]()
LG2 (actually a G, not D) is the same on all VN V6s, regardless whether it is Series 1 or 2.
MD8 means it's auto.
that is a series 1 motor. how long has it been since the transmission was serviced?
I wouldn't know as I only got the car around Christmas time.. But knowing my luck probably never lol. If I get it serviced, will it fix the problem or just keep it the way it is (slow) but just make it last a tad longer?
The mechanic down the road told me he will service it and it will cost around $100 to $250. Maybe I should just get it over and done with.
You can tell the if the auto has been serviced by the colour of the fluid; if it's crimson red means a fluid has been changed (I highly doubt it reading your symptoms but you never know..). If the fluid is dark brown and smells burnt, then it's due for a service.
