    Default Just needing a Service?

    List of Problems:

~~Car stalls at low revs (e.g. slowing down to turn corners, stopping to give way, idle)

~~Oil light, engine light and battery light all on when the engine is not running but the ignition is on

~~No knowledge of previous service (neither does the previous owner)

~~Engine Light turns on and off while driving

~~Sluggish.. no where near as powerful as a V6 should be

    New Parts:

    ~~Coil Pack

    ~~DFI Module

if its going to need more than a service, can someone let me know what it might need and an average quote on how much it'll cost to fix?

I take it its a VN VP .. is it on gas ??

Hey by the sound of it .. u have it pretty much under control .. Full service from bumper to bumper ( only because no one knows when the last service was ..

Lights coming on is normal .. when the car stall it remains in ign mode ( ign on motor off mode) Just indercates motor not running ..

Engine light on and off whilst driving may just be oil no good or the motor picking up something stupid .. I had similar problem and i changed oil and filter and it hasnt been on since ..

I honestly think You change all filters and plugs leads and everything else you have for it, You may find you will lose alot of your problems .. then if problems still persist, try dianostics for a code ..

    Hope this helps mate

this is normal. no oil pressure / battery is not charging etc which is why the lights come on.

an error is logged, check the error codes and it will give you an idea of what you might need to chase. Checking your Computer for Faults (VN - VP)

If the engine light is on and off when driving there is a fault code you need to read the codes, fairly easy on a VN I think there are posts on here otherwise instructions are in a Gregory's manual with a list of the error codes. Stalling at low revs it could be a faulty IAC valve or a lot of carbon in the throttle body. IAC can be removed and tested, with it out and connected turn on the ignition and it shoudl go in and out a few times from memory. If you clean it don't soak it in carby cleaner.
Sluggish could be due to a lot of reasons, low fuel pressure, blocked fuel filter, blocked air cleaner, worn out plugs and or leads etc.

Yup, 88 VN Berlina. and Yea, its on Gas. i'm going to get it serviced some time today and see if that helps. As an L Plater it makes me a little nervous to stall every time i reach a turn! >.>

Apparently the Throttle Body has a tiny screw on it that increases idle revs. Would it help to adjust this screw?

Hate to think what the inside of your engine looks like with no service history :S

not as bad as you would think going to get it serviced and the mechanics to fix the stalling problem.

Is it stalling on petrol or gas or both ? You don't adjust that screw, the throttle is meant to close off when you take your foot off the accelerator and the IAC which is controlled by the ECU bleeds air past it to control idle speed. I suppose iot bleeds air/gas mixture past when the car is running on gas but I have never had a car that runs on gas. The IAC is basically a small motorised valve.

If it's running smooth I'd be suggesting the IAC valve then. If it is a bit rough I'd also suggest checking the leads and spark plugs. These cars can run OK with an open circuited spark plug lead as there is a lot of voltage on the coils and it can jump the gap and still fire the spark plug, my VN had a buggered lead and it was sometimes hard to start and eventuially made a knocking noise and thud from under the car then shuddered when the engine was slightly loaded up an incline.

if im doing anything other than something that lowers my revs, my car is fine. When i slow down to turn the car will stall. when i start my car, i have to 2foot it or i will stall aswell. i will be taking it in for a service on Tuesday so i can actually get it there in my lunch break. i will def. be getting the mechanic to have a look at it!
