trip meter not working replaced cog

hi i replaced the cog in the cluster and it still doesnt work. i had an old cluster out of a vn lying around and i put it in and it still didnt work. i need the trip computer for my l's. although its good dad has been driving it and it hasnt been working so its still got the original k's, lol. plz help.
