Hi guys,
I'm thinking about selling my 89' VN Calais...
She has 161xxxKm's. 100% stock. Immaculate interior and engine never misses a beat. Unmolestered and very well looked after. Serviced regularly since built with log books to prove. Still has the OG dunlop spare tyre in the back :P Putting her through a major service on Thursday then I think its time to part ways.
It's white over the gold/champagne colour. 95% tread on all fours. No rust under the boot carpet! or anywhere on the car for that matter.
Just wondering what price I'd be looking at for a sale.
Thanks,
Michael
Quick sale - Value of remaining rego, minus stamp duty, plus $500.
Wrecker would be lucky to pay $100.
If you find someone that knows absolutely nothing about cars $1500 - $2000.
This is what you are fighting;
Car yard would ask $2000 - $3000, but can supply finance to the financially self destructive and offer BS warranty!
If your going to sell it, why pay for a service and if it is OK, why sell it if it does the job? How much does it owe you in total, minus rego.
Car owes me around $3,000.
It's due for a service so I'm not fussed about spending money on it to make sure it's mechanically sound. Some would say I want to sell it because it has a problem but i've got a pile of service reciepts and tyre / wheel alignment receipts and also mechanics reports etc. so there's nothing to hide.
As I said the car is amazingly standard and original but it's a 21yr old car. I catch the train to work every day so it hardly gets driven. The old duck might take it down to the shops that's about it. Main reason for thinking about sselling is I just want a change.
Someone I know just bought a 124,000 km VN "LE", 100% original condition.. no rust, immaculate, "in the family" since brand new for 1300 with rego...
what state are you in? are you selling it with roadworthy/rego? my guesstimate would be between $1500 and $2000 being a calais
Im in NSW. Has just under 4 months rent on it right now but if it lapses it'll have another years rego on it.
PS levymetal: I like the way you styled the VP looks the goods
I traded my VN 1990 Vacationer sedan, mint condition with 304,000km in late 2008 and got $1600 for it but it had about 12 months rego. They told me they would sell it for $2500 but they put it on the yard at $3000. I don't know what they eventually got for it.
If I was after a mint Calais and it was mechanically A1 I'd say around $2500 to $3000 as a private sale. It really depends on the person if they really want a VN Calais and it is in mint condition with no money to spend and has been serviced an extra $500 is not much given most cars sold second hand need money spent on them and the cost of a basic service these days.
Mikel., Sorry I missed the Calais bit, so add an extra $500 on top of what I said, except the wreckers - add an extra $100
I, on a financial basis, would keep it if it's that good. Because unless you buy a new car with factory warranty, chances are you buying someone's nightmare!
Lecture over! Good luck to you!
If the cars registered and you are using it once in a while keep it, newer cars aren't that much better than a VN really. VN's are worth much more as a car than they are as money
I changed up from a VN to a VY and in some regards the VN was better, a lot simpler and hence not as many niggling issues such as door locks mucking up when it's raining, too hot or too cold, steering shudder.... but on the other hand the newer car drives a lot better and is a safer car. If I had of had the space and been able to justify the cost to register 2 cars I would have probably kept the old girl.
