Also the best way to go about this is new struts which are only 29 bucks :

and just get the bolts of anything fomr vp to vs i think and follow the how to and you should fine. The wreckers will have the bolts probably charge you ten bucks.

what about boot ags struts can i fit them in?

You should be able to fit VR/VS boot gas struts - I think you need to do some drilling on the hinges to fit them though.
When I fitted the gas struts to the bonnet on my VN I used bits off a VS.
Whoever said 'There is no substitute for cubes' had obviously never heard of Jet power
