    Default Engine, heat problems..

Okay guys, first of all Thank you for reading, and thanks for any responses. So i changed my thermostat, coolant temperature sensor, and water temperature sender. (on my series 1 vn, so it was all at the back of the engine, loveeely.) Got it all done, after a few minor issues, chucked another alternator in the car today and got it started, filled water up & stuff, after ten mins it got to about 3/4 temperature, and then i could hear something steaming, so we turned it off, still hear something steaming, and could see wet spots on the bottom half of the engine, nothing above the radiator hose that connects just below the alternator, but there was wetness on the bottom of it. so i'm going to make the guess that i need to replace that hose.. (which didnt leak before..) is that part of the temperature problem too? or did i do something wrong?

    Cheers.

i havent had a good chance to look over everything, as i only got it started a couple of hours ago, couldn't see shit.

Will have a good look tomorrow, but id just look to know what i should be looking for.

Did you bleed the cooling system ?

I'd be replacing the bottom hose and clamp and then if you haven't bled the cooling system do that and see if that helps as it could just be an airlock
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

The early VN's (S1) have a surge tank and they don't have a bleeding screw. If any of the hoses are a bit bloated near their clamps change them.
I have a few of the small hoses off the surge tank if interested.

As Vlad said check the coolant condition. It MUST be 50/50 coolant otherwise the motors can boil the coolant around the valve. I always use the Nulon Long Life Green coolant you need to flush out the old coolant and then get as much water out as possible, (at least 5L) add the concentrate then top up with water, don't pre mix it first. You need 5 Litres of coolant for aVN as it's a 10L capacity cooling system.
