Any Suggestions?

Hey how u all doing? I just bought an 89 Vn For $600 and i got heaps of money left over, I wanted to do it up but to e honest i no next to nothing about cars so has anyone got any ideas for wat I could doo and if u no any shops around that i could go to? I live in the western Sydney area (castle Hill, blacktown, parramatta etc)
so yer any suggestions? thanks alot

well an 89 vn for 600 bucks doesn't exactly sound promising.... so i'd start by taking it to a reputable mechanic and having it thoroughly checked over.

other than that.. golden rule of purchasing a new to you secondhand car .. CHANGE ALL THE FLUIDS (ya just dunno how long that shits been in the car for)

tranny fluid - engine oil - diff oil - power steering fluid - brake fluid and flush your cooling system. doing these things wil also alert u to a few probs ur car might have such as corrosion in the coolant system, buggered diffs, etc..
not real expensive and great as a preventative cure for car issues... not to mention your new toy will run like a dream!

next do your spark plugs and airfilter, again u just dunno how long the ones on it now have been there!!

after that you MUST check your fault codes (see the post in this forum about checking codes).. just in case any sensors ar shagged or summat like that

ya really gotta do all things straight up when u first get the car or else your opening yourself up to a myriad of headaches down the track that can simply be prevented for ever happenin in the first place...........

yeah as sos said get the fuilds done (or it serviced) make sure that its running right sensors eg. then look at the stick thread i wrote at the top of this forum. that will give ya a good guide!

ahh kk thanks alot guys for the suggestions, i'll post pics up wen i get my digital camera back off my mate, it was onli 600 coz it was from my dads mate at work n he bargained him for it lol.. the onli thing that i noticed was wrong about it was the rubber of the windows r stuffed, n there's a leak somewhere.. so yer we're going to get it checked out this weekend, i'll get the other fluids done while we're there

yup righto.... like i said before i no next to nothing bout cars so i'm stuffed, I rely on wat my friends say to do to my car, u guys got any suggestions? I tried reading that sticky:quick guide to cheap bolt on mods... didn't really help me i couldn't understand half that stuff :S :'(

argh i tried to make it user friendly.. but then again someone that knows sweet shit all might have trouble identifying names of things.. ill dumb it out for ya quick 89 didnt have a bellmouth i think so ur safe there... get a factory vs supercharged 6 CAI.. 60$$ from holden whack that on. get k & n filter 100$$+ whack that in.... get a v8 throttle body off a vn-vp 150$$ whack that on. get a zorst pacemaker 1.5 primaries i think it was.. get a 2.5" catback single high flow muffler drop the ressy.. get mandrel bent thats about 1000$ max.. and get it serviced.. plugs leads fuel filter oil filter. oil. tranny fluid.. etc.. i wrote that guide to so i wouldnt have to do this nemore!! lol but i hope that dumbed it out a little

ok well considering the new laws apply to me, the p plater laws, i can't turbo charge, supercharge or make it a V8.. let alone engine performance mods..
pretty much i wanna clean it up so it runs to the best it can like i still change the engine around n stuff... but yea, I'm going to make i look awesome, sound awesome n have a nice system... any suggestions in reply to those guidelines?
