Hey guys, i was just about to buy some 19 inch rims for my VN executive that i am doing up for my first car.
Its lowered, exhaust, aero body kit etc etc.
Anyway yeah just wondering if 19's are legal and if anyone would insurer me?
If not are there anyway around it because ive seen alot of Vns with bigger rims.
Thanks guys!
Sorry if this has already been posted!
hey. if your car came out with 15inch wheels you can go upto 17 inch with 235/45r17 tyres you are legally allowed to go up 2 sizes in nsw this is what i have done with my car, hope this helps.
Gaaah, yeah i thought that would be the case. How do these guys manage to have 18s/19's on there VNs then ?
I'm quite sure that old 2" size up is not the law anymore, it all has to do with rolling diametre. increase the rim size decrease the tyre wall size to keep the rolling diametre the same.
Ben
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
depends on which state you live in - different laws for different states
In Qld as said above, there is no limitations on wheel diameter, providing rolling circumference of the tyre doesn't change (within a tolerance)
I think its 5mm or something, isn't it?
edit: go to The Wheel Deal's sub forum and there is a thread in there with a chart of what is legal on what car. That might help...

when getting my commodore ute road worthy i had this same problem.
its a real gray area as no one is sure if the 2inch rule is even around anymore.
i was having trouble getting a roady with my 18's as vs utes come out stock with 15's and my mechanic was going by the 2inch rule.
he checked the tyre placard on my car and as the vs maloo came out with stock 16's my tyre placard said that and i passed a roady.
as for insurance it was fine, as long as its road worthy and you are willing to pay marginally extra they should insure you.
Yeah ive been looking into it further, the insurance just asked for the price of the rims not the size, i said $1000 and they were like yeah its fine.
Umm, i live in Victoria, whats the rules there if anyone knows?
and thanks ben i'll check it now.

the links don't work when i post them, sorry mate.
if you do some searching on vicroads you should be able to find some helpful info.
stupid internet dogs ballsack lickers.
THERE IS NO SUCH RULE AS A 2" RULE!!!!
Sorry for yelling but it seems like I have to post about it every other day...
NO STATE (or Territory) in Australia limits wheel diameter increases - tyre diameter increases are limited.
Have a read here - it's all there on pages 4 and 5 > Guidelines for alternate wheels & tyres
DAVIDC - 19's can be perfectly legal on your car, for insurance and roadworthy.
Ahh the link didnt work, thanks anyway Tim
Also with the Placard thing, Isnt the Maloo part of the HSV range or something? I heard if it isnt the same type of car it doesnt count, so my Vn executive will only be able to have 17's even though the HDT VN Aero came out with 17s?
Thank you so much TWD!!
I really appericate it!
But whats the deal with the 2inch law? Was it a "once apon a time" thing and is no longer or ?
looks like the wheel king has you covered DAVIDC.
i was just putting my personal experiences in, this 2inch rumour thing really pissed me off.
and i don't understand if its not real why the hell do people use it for roadworthy?
with regards to my tyre placard for some reason it had 16inch on there, i'm assuming that was the maloo.
unless the ss or s pac came out stock with 16 inch alloys?
ohh ok, well thanks anyway timand atleast your rims are alright on your car !
Thanks twd, my dad was the one who told me about the 2 inch rule and that i shouldnt waste my time with the 19's if i need to take them off, but he said i should look into it, hence the reason im on here :P
Thanks again everyone!
cheers mate.
judging by the wheel deals helpful info your wheels should be fine too.
if they wont pass your rwc print off the document and take it in as proof.
goodluck mate.
Thanks mate!
The Commy still has a couple months before its finished but i'll chuck some photos up soon![]()
can't wait to see her finished mate.
once again goodluck.
Remember this thread?
Well apparently they are un-roadworthy :|
Never fear, I got some Stockies to chuck on her for the roadworthy, then straight home for the awaited 19's![]()
FFS! Why do you guys never listen! Provided you have the correct tyres fitted to meet the guidelines you can in effect put 26's on your car if you want. Who said they are unroadworthy?

Selling FG G6E Turbo and buying a N/A Supra
what what what?
what size tyres are you running?
larger wheels with smaller tyres often don't meet the required load rating, which makes them illegal.
