Alrighty, so today we decide to go for a drive, but the car won't unlock with the remote.. tried for a good 10 minutes (because my alarm sometimes goes off if i use the key :/) Finally figured i'd just go for the key, alarm didnt go off (thank god ^.^ cause i don't think i woulda been able to stop it :P)
But then, the damn car wouldn't start. it just keeps trying to turn over, press the remote, tried turning lights on and off and shit, opening & closing doors, locking & unlocking, opening and closing glovebox (because sometimes that used to make my "press remote" button come up..) But nothing, checked in my engine bay, everything appears alright. one in every probably, 20 turns of the key, it wouldn't try turn over, there was a really weird sound.. i can't really describe it, uhm.. maybe sounded like a belt slipping against steel, but REALLY fast..
What the hell is wrong with my car?? It was running yesterday O.o
Thanks allot everybody
Edit: oh yeah, i bought a new battery for the remote aswell, still didnt work..
I think that the "press remote" with the glovebox opening/closing is a clue. Not having a check engine light with the ignition on "reds", engine off, will be another. It may be a dead anti-theft switch.
The switch for the anti-theft system is in the top of the glovebox. If you don't have a key, you might try moving the switch + the wiring behind it directly as confirmation.
Bypassing the switch - disabling the anti-theft - is simply a matter of connecting the appropriate pair of wires (there are two pairs to the switch; one that routes ignition power through the ant-theft module above the glovebox, the other directly to the ECM, bypassing the anti-theft module).
The anti-theft system disables the injectors only.
Checking for spark and then fuel supply and injector pulse (using a test light to the back of the injector wires) would be the next diagnostic steps.
Alright mate, thank you very much. Will go have a look.![]()
okay well i checked the key thing in the glovebox, my keys don't fit it. (i changed my ignition switch, and assuming the door locks have been changed at some point too, so i don't have the key..)
i could turn it like, an eigth of a turn with the very end of my key in there, when it was close to horizontal, the car would try, when it was vertical, the weird sound came again.
so is this telling me its my switch? like if i can get it to lock properly horizontal will the car run?
Cheers![]()
The key will not be the same as the door and boot lock key anyway.
CEL present? If it isn't then bypassing with the switch should work.
It's probably easiest, even if only as a diagnostic step, to disconnect the switch connector immediately behind the switch and jumper the terminals together with a short length of wire. I'm not sure of the colours off the top of my head but I've posted on here pretty recently about bypassing the switch - maybe on a VP which should be the same - where I did post the colours (= you search or I search to find it and it's your car).
Nope no check engine light...
Cheers!i'll have a search myself, thanks.

Alright i think i found the post, i'm thinking i might try replace the switch before i go doing anything else, is there any way i could get something in there to use as a key? or will i just have to pull it out and replace it?
If the switch doesn't work i suppose i'll bypass it, but i'd rather have it work.. lol

Thanks for the help guys, problem... half solved. i'm not gonna mess with it, i'll leave it for the mechanic if it decides to be a sook again, but i just opened my glove box, gave my dash a couple of err, love taps.. tapped the top of the inside of my glove box, slammed the glovebox shut, and up came "press remote"![]()
Cheers guys![]()
alright, so i'm thinking i should really do something about this now as i need a roadworthy in the next couple of weeks.. could anyone tell me what my problem might be? this still happens occasionally.. pretty much, i give my dash a good whack above the glovebox and then the "press remote" light comes up, i press it, she works.. so because of me hitting it, might this be a faulty connection or a bad wire? or something more serious? would it be worth just pulling it apart and taking a look to check any connections and check for dodgy wires?
Thanks guys!
Yep, I would take the Cluster out..and check the White Plugs.. Called (From right to left) C1 , C2 , C3..
These are were the wires connect to the dash to tell it whats going in.. Check all the wires connecting into C1 2 & 3.. If all looks ok, get into the Fuse Rail area and check the fuses (May aswell check all) And make sure the Fuses are the correct AMP to whats required.. (Eg - 15A for Power Windows)
Buut, Im starting to think your Central Locking module is crapping out.. It sits left of the dash..near the ECU .. but its hidden by the dash .
If you're keen to find it, you may want to take it to Holden and hopefully they can repair it.. Or, get a new one from the wreckers.
Good luck
Let us know how you go !
alright cheers mate! well yeah i dunno, just as i said sometimes the car won't start, well its more like.. it doesnt read the remote? but it knows it needs it? like yeah, usually the doors dont unlock with the remote, so i use the key.. then i go to start the car and get nothing, hit dash on left hand side, press remote light comes up, i do so, it will start, then after im done it will lock like normal?? so maybe some problem with some kind of receiver? i know it isn't remote battery, as i've changed this already while having this problem..
replace the key switch in the glovebox or just solder the wires together like said above its all thats wrong the switch gets corroded inside and looses contact join the pink wires together
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

thanks alot mate! lol i was actually just about to come on and say that it was the switch, as i just had to move my car and it wouldnt start, i put my finger on the key switch, and twisted it a tiny bit, and the light popped up.. i was going to take it out, but i can see that theres like rivets holding the inside of the glovebox in, do i HAVE to take these out to get to the switch? or is there some other way? Will the switch pass a roadworthy like this or will it have to be replaced? or, what if i had the key for the switch.. may it be of any use? cause i read somewhere about them, and someone said something about getting a locksmith to make a key for it or some shit, i dont know if that will be possible or anything.. but i figured it's worth asking. Cheers!
(i know joining the wires together is an option, but i'd really rather not do that.. just incase of any possible future issues..)
[QUOTE=PUSHIN;1542261]i can't really describe it, uhm.. maybe sounded like a belt slipping against steel, but REALLY fast..
M VN makes the same noise, like, once every 20 times I start the car.. Does anyone know what it is? And how to fix it?
joining the wires is just the same as the key is doing join the pinks to do away with the remote or join the purples to keep the remote or you can buy a new key switch from jaycar and fit that the switch just turns the central locking remote on and off its all its there for one way turns the remote on one way turns it off some people have got away with a cable tie around the lock so it pushes the barrel in hard
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

As above, the old cable tie around the lock barrel is the best way to go. To get the last one i did out tho, I had to remove the dashboard
You could possibly get away with only having to remove the radio surrounds, glove box, drivers side drop panel and the end heater vents. Then unbolt the bolts at the top of the dash, under the demister vent, and the ones on the side, oh and the one under the stereo
Should make it loose enough to sit it forward enough to undo the large nut of the key barrel.
Then all you have to do is put it all back together!!!
best of luck!

Thanks alot guys! do we recon it'd be possible to go to a locksmith and get a key for this??
nstone63 i just found this was to do with my immobiliser, thats what we're discussing now, i havent heard that noise come from my car in a long time, but that was when i couldnt figure out what was going on, and i'd try start my car, over and over, like i'd give it a go, stop, go, and yeah.. but as you stated, once every 20 or so times, it would make that noise. i havent heard it since, as now after my car starts then instantly cuts out, then wont start after 3 trys or so, i was giving my dash a few good taps above the glove box, but nowwww, i've found my problem lies with the switch within the glove box.. that's what we've been discussing, i'm looking to fix it, but yeah.. the options are stated above..
doesnt matter even if they cut a key it wont help your situation the contacts in the key will be corroded or tarnished DPST Change Over Keyswitch - Jaycar Electronics brandnew key switch 13 bucks or so

uhm but i can like, turn the switch not even 1mm (without key or anything, it has a little bit of movement) and in a certain spot it will work..?
okay, nevermind. thanks for all the help guys!problem solved, i spent houuurs pulling my dash apart and putting it back toegether, i think some err.. intelligent being has lets say.. "modified" it.. i didn't completely pull the dash out, i got it a fair way forward, enough to replace the switch, but i'm actually curious to the effort involved in taking it out, one day i'll do it but im realllly not looking forward to it. >.> so anyway, in short. i replaced the switch, tested where i needed the wires before i put it all back together, just so i wouldn't upset myself later.. and then reassembled everything, and it worked fine. switch is functioning normally now. oh, plus.. before i started, and half way through.. i tried starting my car, it wouldn't work.. as soon as i put the wires in the switch, it worked. just for anyone else in the future with similiar issues..
im having the same shit go wrong with my vn now i cant get in at all dont realy want to try the keys just incase the alarm will go off then i cant stop it what should i do ????
just open door with key if alarm goes off pop bonnet and unplug wires to horns or replace battery in remote
yeah mate, first off try replacing teh battery in the remote, and if that doesn't work just go for getting into the car with the key, and if the alarm goes off, as stated above disconnect wires i suppose.
but if it's not the battery for the remote, my problem was a fairly simple fix (besides half removing my f**king dash) -.-' was pretty much just a "simple" matter of changing the key switch within the glovebox. cost me not even $10 to get a new switch, from jaycar. four wires at the back, connected them to the correct ends, off i went. haven't had a problem sinceactually i love when i see these threads come back up, 6 months since i had this problem, hasn't been back, and from what i remember i did a rough as shit job doing it, so thats a +

(usually, i'd like to do it properly, but whatever r-tard had this car before me, thought it'd be "kewl" or something to do a redneck job on all the wiring and whatnot. well actually, on everything. so now, i have to fix einsteins work.
basicly i just figured a quick temperary fix would do, considering in time, i'll have to pull everything apart and do it all properly myself.) <3 love the work involved in these old baby's LOL.
