vp auto. what gear around town to use?

hey guys, was talking to a mechanic today about my vp v6 auto, and somehow got onto the topic of what gear my car should be in around town. he says i should always keep my car in 3rd gear when driving around town below 65km/h, and not go to 4th gear until about 70 km/h. but my car always goes into 4th at around 50 km/h. does anyone have an opinion on this? to me my car seems fine cruising at 60 km/h in 4th, and i would imagine its also more fuel efficient than staying in 3rd which is what the mechanic recommends. what do you's do around town? 3rd or 4th?

Doesn't matter, i tried both, gets me home both ways.
