    Probably not a lot.

The only difference is the VS has a Series 2 engine i think, unless its an ECOTEC engine then i dont know sorry.

    all vs were ecotecs.
probably be heaps easier to just get a better vn motor.
fair bit of work to swap for an ecotec.

If it's an Ecotech you would be looking at having to use the VS wiring loom, and the engine computer, this may also be linked to the body control module for security which your VN may not have or if it does it probably won't communicate with the VS module. The auto is also electronically controlled and the console is a bit different with a power/econmoy switch you also need to fit.
Your probably best to go and get a good 2nd hand VN engine, if it's an early model with a surge tank you could consider the later motor or get one from a VP or a VR but you may then need to look at flywheels etc which may be different.

Itl be a fun project, do an interior swap while your at it aswell .

If you want the dash to bolt straight in etc, swap the firewall while you at it, Allso youll get tilt and reach steering .

    Alot of work though.

Just grab a VR motor ( buic ) and get delco to make you a tune, much easyer, sell the VS to pay for it or something.

swap the whole dash and whole body wiring. everything.

its not necessary but would be cool if u got hole car plus u would eliminate any wiring issues as everything willl just plug up.

It wouldn't be the hardest job ever to swap the computer and wiring over for the ecotec engine, I'd be more concerned about the body control module. There's no doubt that the result would be worthwhile, do some research on the BCM and maybe compare wiring diagrams from VP-VN to VS. If you can't make sense of the wiring diagram and don't know how to use a test light and multimeter then you're either in for a steep learning curve or you're going to have to pay someone to do the wiring for you. The dash should be similar enough to get away with a bit of fiddling, the VS dash would go in but I prefer the VP dash.

Basically, you need the VS engine and trans, loom, PCM and a vats-deleted tune to suit. That way you wont have to piss about with a bcm and the VS steering column bits associated. There will be a few other smaller bits like radiator plumbing and stuff, but if you have a VS for parts you shouldnt run into many issues. Definitely do the swap. Stock for stock, the ecotec is faster and a hell of a lot better drive. Plus there are more aftermarket parts available for it, as well as more used parts, that are easier to find with lower ks on them.

I agree with the Andrew person above. I couldn't remember what you do about the BCM but that sounds dead right. Have fun!
