Exclamation hairy ride home!!!!!!!!

Well I have just arrived home from night shift in the rain and wind, not ussually a delema for my VN but tonite was another story. I started her in the car park....no problem, drove about 15km and the engine light came on (didnt bother me as it has a habbit of clicking on and off occasionaly) but this time she started to chug and then cut out. I would'nt have minded if it was the engine that died but it was the whole electrics, I lost all lights......everything. I was travelling over 110km/h as I live in the country, so I gained control (just) and hoped I could make out the edge of the road. I immediately tried to turn her over and she fired up straight away??????????????????????? So I drive off again and about 10km down the road it does it again, which I can tell you did not stop until I got home, which is about 85km from work.............
I looked under the bonnet but could'nt see anything wrong with the battery or leads, but it was dark and I was drenched. If anyone has maybe experienced (I hope no-one has) something like this I would be most interested????

Mate, what a scary end to the night for you! Glad you got home safe and sound. I'd be investing in one of those high-powered search lights you plug into the cigarette lighter just in case and have it on the seat ready LOL

Lucky is the word!!!!!! O.K. I will be checking the car soon as the sun(cloud) has almost reached visibility here. I know enuf to get myself out of trouble if my car dies but I am still just a chick with a VN manual, so this could take a while. I have to get to work tonite so I will have to fix my car b4 then, so hopefully it will just be a loose wire???????????
YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But yeah "ozute" I think I will put my fluro light in the car b4 I go anywhere again. LOL !!!!!

For the whole car to loose electrics, I would be looking at the main battery link, on your fuse link next to the battery, the middle fuse. I think it's called main. You will notice that the wire is actually bolted to the fuse. Just could be the crimp connections may be loose.
Good luck!

Cheers,
Jim

I heard of another guy whose car did the same thing just as he turned into his driveway or something, blue the 'main' fuse which controls EVERYTHING.... Lost his lights, engine, brake, power steering, etc. Said he was lucky that he'd just pulled into his driveway because 5 minutes prior he'd been driving in the wet round tight bends and stuff. I think it was someone on this forum.

Post puzzled?????

?????????????.............Firstly,Yep it was a large uncrimped wire from my battery terminals, it was hanging under everything else so I did'nt see it in the rain. I figure it was just touching when all was running smooth but every time I hit a bump in the road it fell loose and cut everything out......I have taken it for a drive and all is well.....or is it????????
I cant understand though how it became loose, I know I drive on country roads but I had new terminal ends put on not 2 months ago, I also noticed my power steering lid was not threaded properly and was sitting on a slant and my auto trans dipstick was missing????????? There was nothing touched inside and it didnt look like there was any damage to my bonnet latch or driver doors???????
I check my car weekly due to long distance country driving and had not noticed any of these things prior to this morning, needless to say I have rang my work and told them that there might be someone either looking for free car parts or someone tampering with unnatended cars in the lot????????
I hate criminals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But thankyou all for pointing me in the right direction!!!!!!

Bloody hell, that's scary to find out that someone has been inside your car and have been tampering with it. You wouldn't know what else they have done.
Good to see you have fixed your problem.

Cheers,
Jim

I worked in a bar last year and when I came out at 430am one morning I found the car door was unlocked and the console was open... nothing missing though!!! I noticed that the rubber surrounding the door was ripped to shreads from something sharp..... you always get a creepy feeling after that.

Has anyone else at your work had their car tampered with or just yours??
