    Default Leaking tail light/Boot.

G'day guys, Just took the bottom tail light globe out and water rushed outta the tail light. Is there a tail light seal or is it coming from the boot??

    Cheers,
    Daniel

The seals went on mine, silicon if you're cheap/lazy. Or replace through someone like this....

Just take the tail light out of the car and drill 3 holes about 3/16" to 1/4" accross the bottom to let the water out and all will be fine.

No worries that's what I did with my VN to fix it and never any problem after that. Also if your getting water in your boot it will probably be the rear 1/4 windows and you'll need to remove them and reseal them with some windsscreen sealant.

The water in the boot seems to be coming from around the tail light area, Carpet gets wet around that area.

Does it run down there from the 1/4 window?

Driling a hole or 2 in the bottom of the lens is a winner and cheap fix for rusting out the globe holders.

To test the 1/4 windows - get a jug of water and run it over the roof so it runs down the getter over the 1/4 window. Have the boot open and look for water

Water can also get in via the fuel cap cover seal.

The carpet can get wet but usually it will collect water in the spare wheel. When I discovered mine leaked it was during a huge storm and the whole boot was like a swimming pool, nearly ran into the rest of the car.
These side windows are just sealed with a bit of foam tape and a blob of sealant where that oins not very well done by Holden at all. There not hard to get out you have to remove all the inside trim around them and the back seat as well.

I think it was just leaking in through the tail light, well i hope so anyway.

Just see how it goes next time it's outside in heavy rain. It may be worth checking to see if the lamp sockets in your tail light wiring harness are corroded from the water. It's common for this to happen and from memory a new one is not too expensive assuming they are still available from Holden.

I'd just take the tail light out and drill 3 x 3/16 or 1/4 inch holes in the bottom of it. In the spare wheel well I'd be painting it with some kill rust enamel and giving it a few days to go nie and hard. Put some foam rubber in to stop the tyre wearign it off and check for water every once in a while.
