HI all
i had my vn ute stolen last week i now have it back now with a stuffed motor and trans (pricks)
i updated this vn to series2 a couple of years ago but this was my first stuff around with new school motors , yes it took me a bit walk away from my old school holdens.. and now i would like to update the ute to a ecotec motor as a mate of mine has a good one laying around with trans and lumb and computer this motor came out of a vs .
from watt ive have read it can be done but im lost on where to start
Q1. How much of the wire lumb do i need to change?
Q2. do i keep the vn computer or use the ecotec one?
Q3. Thottle cable ?
Q4. and watt am i missing
maybe someone knows of a page that has a step by step with pics where they have done this before
ill take any tips
please help sux with no wheels
Your off to a good start.
Can go one of 2 ways, Ecu swap plus loom, Or mod your loom to suit ( one or 2 plugs i think ) and contact delco for a tune if manual.
But if auto, Youll need EVERYTHING, they are electronicly controled boxes.
So just basicly out with the old in with the new. You may be able to use your old trans on the ecolump im not sure of that, someone else will answer it,
And yes its been done a million times before on this site, search is your friend.
I put an ecotec in my VN rally car. Buying a wrecked VS from the auctions for $400 will give you all the parts you need like VS radiator, steering rack. Infact I also used the VS adjustable suspension, and if you buy smart a set of wheels too.
I used the VN computer and spliced it into the VS loom. You do need to be pretty good with wiring to sort it all out, but it does work.
The Buick engine in the VN to VR just had burst fired injectors not sequential like the Ecotech. Using a VN ECU will only give you burst firing which wil be a lot less efficient and raise the emmissions. I think the best solution it to change the whole wiring loom ECU to engine to a VS and then do what is needed to sort out security and the BCM etc.
ok boys im still lost ..bcm and pcm are they both in the computer box behind the kick panel.
and when you guys say splice the loom do you mean change the vn plug from dash to computer ,over to the vs plug to computer
really guys splice watt and where??
i have the the whole vs to take parts off
so this is watt im going to take off, thottle cable , trans cross member ( is this diffrent?), loom from motor to computer.. really trans and motor will come out as one with loom on it .. someone said take the rack is there a reason for this..
can someone plaese list watt else i need
really need these answers by this weekend so i can start this job hate having know wheels
i know i can get the motor and trans in but still not sure on watt to do with computer
yes i know about the sequential injectors thats why id like to use the vs computer
I may be wrong but......
I feel sequential injection is only an advantage at idle and cruise, but at full throttle and high revs the injectors are getting pretty close to 100% duty cycle, that is they are open almost constantly. So 'timing' their opening point is of no advantage.
I was going to use the VS computer, but the problems with the BCM and ignition key, etc ruled it out.
Is it possible to reprogram the memcal to do away with the BCM?
yes you can turn the security off easy in the memcal
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
i have paid for the motor today so it looks like this is going to happen this weekend..if there is any one in s.a that can help let me know im not rich but can pay for someone to supervise or point out watt to do and they will not have to pick up a tool just tell me watt to do
disabling the security you need a chip burner if someone is in your area on here with one ill send them a file to burn

I think the sequential injection was a big factor in improving fuel efficiency and emmissions in the Ecotech compared to the Buick 3.8
Also when the Ecotech goes into the VN it will probably still need to meed the emmission requirements of the car it came out of and without the sequential injection and a few other things the Buick doesn't have this may not be possible for example the Ecotech has a cam angle sensor, 2 knock sensors and 2 oxygen sensors which all contribute the the lower emmissions and fuel usage.
