Ok well i have a VG ute and was wondering what moderfications i would need to make it into a semi-drift setup soo i can drive it around town and then take it up to Mallala and try to drift..
So far all ive done is exhaust and suspension upgrades..will i need more power from my stock v6
Also have very decent brake pads/fluid.. i watch alot of Tsuchiya's videos and his best advice is always to have decent pads/fluid. You will have more than enough power from the stock V6 mate.

would LSD still be ok cause i still wanna be able drive it on the road normally, cause i herd the minispools are a pain when on the road...where can i get a baffled sup...and the guy that had the car before put brembo brakes on it to make it easier to stop or somethin cause it was an ex-work horse
also wats asr?
and ive had my suspension done with stiff shockers and some SSL king springs.....any clue how to tighten the handbrake cause i broke it doin some extreme parking
asr are a site sponsor, they'll build you a baffled sump. good quality stuff too, my old mans got one for his 396 stroker.
LSD would be quite good, as long as it still works good.
is the cable broken or has it just gone slack? commodore handbrakes aren't much chop at the best of times haha. ah righto so the brakes are ok then, coz standard commodore ones don't like repeated stops. they just glow red and boil the fluid (looks cool at night haha).
best of luck with drifting it, i've thought about doing something like this with mine.
Heh, I just posted this in another thread.
Think long and hard about using it as a track car. I have a friend who rolled his 180sx three times at a track day, he is lucky to be alive (had a passenger been sitting in that car, they would have probably been killed). He went all out with his new 180, and as such, it cannot be road registered due to the roll cage he put in (CAMS approved). It is hard to have it both ways.
Also , manuals are the best for driftng (which I assume your ute is). The Brembo's you got will be good though.
If your handbrake still kinda works, you can get under the car and see it run down the middle and split off to each wheel. Apparently there are a couple of nuts that you can turn to tighten it. Search might give a better result.
sweet cheers for the help guys..ive thought about the consicences, but i think ill still go drifting...at least its safer then doin it on the the street.. and yes my ute is manual..wouldnt have bought if it wasnt....anyone know were i can pick up a new LSD in adelaide and a price
and my handbrake doesnt work at all....are the nuts on the callipers or more towards the chasis
the handbrake adjuster nuts are up closer to the handbrake lever, u will find them easy when u get under the car.
on the subject of roll cages, last time i looked at the cams website they didn't require a rollcage for drift comps. that may well have changed now. anyway, i have had a good look at a few drift cars at shows like indy and the "stadium drift pro tour" or whatever they call it. most seem to go for a bolt in/bolt together cage ie. main hoop running up the b pillars and over the drivers head is one piece, then the bars running down the a pillars and the ones to the parcel shelf/rear wheel arch clamp onto that main hoop + a few more bars running from drivers side to passenger side.
now i dunno how good a well made bolt-in cage would protect u compared to a decent welded in cage in a big crash but surely it would be better than nothing. and at the end of the day u can unbolt it, throw it in the tray and not get a defect for it on the way home
do roll overs even happen that much...cause dont really wanna spend big on a roll cage
I've never done proper drifting myself, only watched a tonne of videos and never seen any, or many.

hand brake is going to let you down big time no matter what you do its never going to work they rip the shoe mounts off before they would work properly best bet is fit a second hydraulic handbrake working the disck pads instead on the handbrake shoes
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
are they hard to install and do they cost much money cause im only goin up there a couple times a year..wont be doin anything serious
all u need is some calipers and their mounting brackets welded onto your diff housing opposite your existing calipers, easy to get off a diff of similar vintage. and some brake line running to a hydraulic handbrake lever. shouldn't cost too much i'd be more worried about what a cop would do when they see 2 handbrake levers
if i get the time i may just try that...i shall see how it goes
Yes, a bolt in is better than nothing. And yes, I believe there are still tons of track days where a cage is not required (that's how my mate figured out he needed a cage).
Basically what happened in my mates case was that he had a Kaaz 2-way LSD, so pretty much locked both when on and off the throttle. He went into a corner, came off the throttle too soon and got traction right in the middle of the corner, which sent him off the track, he then went down one side of a ditch and became airborne out the other side. So it wasn't his style of driving or him being an idiot. I'm not saying that you have to get a cage or stop you having fun, it's just food for thought. Hell, if I ever owned a car like that I'd probably still do it every now and then cage or not. At least get a helmet though
ok cheers...ill defs be wearing a helmet..but hopefully i still dont crash cause im not keen on a repair bill/new car
oh really howd it catch on fire...
um how do i get negative camber
ohh it makes sence now that i read it poperly..
