Default performance mods for a vp

I would like to increase the acceleration of my 5 speed 92 VP. Any ideas on how to do this starting with the least expensive options eg pod filter, extractors etc up to forced induction and engine rebuilds?

well pod filters on commodores are almost a waist of time...start with full exhaust..and get it done by an actual exhaust place other wise u will jst end up with powerloss..then some decent cams would go down well..theres heaps of things u can do....also ive heard throttle bodies can help..i personally dont have one but ive read they can make a difference....also try and get as much COLD air into the engine bay and get as much of that into the air intake..then add a pod otherwise they are useless

    Thanks for the advice Archie4812,

I have a 2 inch exhaust but stock headers. It growls like a v8 but is only a 6. Would you suggest extractors/high flow cats etc? Also what cam ratios and when would a performance chip be advisable?

Lower the diff ratio, thats probably the easiest way to get good acceleration. It will rev a bit harder (higher) at highway speeds, but having a 5 speed gearbox, it will still be ok .The standard diff ratio is usually 3.08 to 1.Id go for a 3.5 to 1, or even a 3.8 to 1.

a highflow cat and extractors will give it a bit more grunt also check out the MACE cold air intake its a pod and an enclosed box, works much better then the panel setup also have a look at high ratio rockers they made a good difference for me, lemme know if ya want the link to MACE site they have some good stuff

yer i agree with all the others..go with some good headers like pacemaker's ( at least 2 inch) and 150psi cat....that should give you better performance all round
and defs get a delcowizzid tune...i personnaly havent got one yet but have heard they are the bomb... and as for the cam ratio im not sure cause i dont kno much about cams....if you can try and find someone that has a good idea with them....i only said to get some because i had some stage 2 crow cams in me old valiant and they were great..they are probz the cheapest things you can do that will make a difference

    I presume you have a V6???

    Cheapest: zorst, cai, tune

Spend a lot of money for moderate gain: Blower + cooler + above

best bang for buck: 5 litre + #1

the only way a pod will increase you throttle response is if you can get it runnin in the wheel arch, or down to the front guard that is the best way. but and over the radiator induction will give you better throttle resonse

Agreed with reaper, buy a smashed car with a 5L for 1500 and change all the shit over then sell bits here and there, then scrap it..... you will come out pretty much even

But if you cant, then as reaper said above, cai, exhaust and tune.......... Maybe an lsd with 3.45-3.7's? Thats pretty much the only mods that dont cost much and will be worth the money....

    Thanks Guys for the Advice.

    What is cai?

If I get a high flow cat/extractors and a cam/high ratio rockers, would I then need a chip to retune it all?

I have stock exhaust headers going into a 2.5 inch pipe. It sounds really grunty. Do I still need extractors? Also what cam ratio would be a suitable?

well it was well worth it on my last vn not only for the fact it was cheaper than a standard one or the extra rumble it made but the cat is the single most restriction on any exaust system so it is always worth it

Yer my mates vn v6 got a 2 1/2 inch lukey system with one muffler and then added a 2 1/2 highflow cat 150psi one i think it was and that made his vn loud as f**k with a nice gurgle in the exhaust when dropping revs and the power gain was pretty damn good.

another mate had extractors and a gutted cat and 2 1/2 with one muffler and his sounded very loud but kinda s**t but backed up with his v8 throttle body and cai and a retuned chip and msd coil packs and leads it went spastic. He also had lsd with 4:11's and a 5 speed but the thing was very quick for a vn v6.

Well if you had a stuffed cat then ofcourse a new one would be better :P
The VN cats are a great for a stock item and I can garentee if one is in good condition, It would not be a restriction on a stock v6
