Cheers, My starter was cranking slow and sounded dry so I ordered a new one online.
The new one is less than half the weight of the old and needs shorter bolts. I was hoping you blokes could give me some advise please. Is the new starter in the picture really up to the job as it is so small and light? Have any of you blokes used one like this? Was a rotten job pulling it out as I had to drop the exhaust from the extractors to the cat and drop the steering down. The small one won't have that problem but it feels like a toy compared to the old one. Thanks again, Gazza.

looks to be a v6 starter.
what are the numbers on the side of it?
well a bxh136 is the bosch number for a 304 starter.
just looks a little different, especially the angle of the cutout of the nose cone (though it maybe the angle of the photo), and solenoid position....
Yep, the solenoid is located further away from the block. There are a heap that look the same on Ebay and most fit Vl to early VT. Thought you blokes that are familiar with this stuff may say if it is ok or not. I am more familiar with Landcruiser parts though I have had this car for years. I have only replaced tyers & breaks on it, only just over 120,000Ks on it.
oh well, put it on, and see what happens.
just be ready to turn the key back off if theres any bad noises.
and its a high torque starter, thus the size and weight difference.
No its not a V6 starter. Its a gear reduction starter. Designed for VR-VS but will fit yours fine. Only issue you will have is if it hits the headers. Apart from that, its the right one
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
cheers Stocky, It says it is for VN to early VT. I cut and pasted it under the number on the starter number post. My main question is are they any good? When I bought it online I had no idea it was so small compared to the original. Cheers seems the link was no good, from the listing.
Thanks Shearer, LOL, It looked like sending a boy to do a mans job [Tiny starter]. Thanks for the reassurance. I will have to get 2 new bolts one shorter and one longer on Monday and see how it goes. Regards gazza
Starter motor was ok, but they are noisy suckers. Had to change the bolts to two 85mm H/T bolts. The smaller reduction motor fits well behind the headers and is far easier to get back in to place. Just sound cheap in a Senator. Thanks for the help.
