Not sure with the gearbox swap but engine wise you may need the right radiator, remove the surge tank and put in the right overflow bottle and get any new heater/radiator hoses as needed unless there is a way to connect the newer motor up with the surge tank.

I am pretty sure the early VN motors had a different crank shaft if they were auto or manual but the later motors the crank shaft is the same. You should be able to get a flywheel to suit the later motor? I think your also meant to use new bolts when you replace the flywheel as well.

I went from series two manual engine to a series one auto engine... All i needed was the crank adapter. From what i know, the VN's have 3 different engines...

    Serious one - AUTO
    Series one - MANUAL
    Series two -BOTH

You will probably need an adapter to hook your crank up if your switching between any of these 3....
