Default Tech1 and the VN/VP ALDL connector.

GM Tech 1 mating connector TA02329A.

    Pin Function .................................................. ................. Tech 1 connector -
    1 +12 volts .................................................. ..................pin H
    2 Fuel pump test.............................................. .............. pin G
3 Check engine light (CEL) and serial data (0 to +12v)........pin E
4 Torque converter clutch............................................ ....pin F
    5 Diagnostic test terminal ................................................pi n B
    6 Earth .................................................. ........................pin A

This info came from this web site---ALDL Information for the VN & VP Holden Commodore

I have a Tech1 scantool, and I managed to get hold of a holden 6 pin ALDL connector for it to connect to the VN-VP ALDL connector. The problem Im having is the adaptor wont work.Ive checked the adaptor with a multimeter and the terminals on the adaptor are the same as described above except for the pins 3 and 4 which are swapped around. The ALDL serial data (pin 3) should connect to the pin E on the Tech1,and pin 4 should connect to pin F on the Tech1.The adaptor I have has these around the other way,pin 4 goes to Tech 1 connector E,and pin 3 goes to Tech1 connector F.Also the part number is different,The part number on my adaptor is TAO2329,the part number mentioned above is TAO2329A.Does anyone know what this different adaptor was used for,the only difference is the pins 3 and 4 are swapped around, other than that ,they are the exact same adaptor. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Na,dont need that, got one of them,But thanks anyway . This Im talking about is a proper adaptor for the Tech 1 scantool that holden use at their dealerships to scan /diagnose vehicles engine management systems etc up until the year 1995.The Tech 2 was used after this.

I guess if its reading the TCC instead of the ALDL data then its just a simple way of checking that the torque converter is being locked up during a test run, or possibly to send it a signal to force it to lock up?

Should be simple enough to swap a pin on one of the connectors to run the ALDL data to the Tech.

Hi,yeah thanks, good idea but I thought I might just get hold of another Tech 1 cable and swap the E and F wires over in the actual cable and just keep it just to use with the VN/VP program cartridge.I own a VS which uses the 16 pin ALDL connector ,theres a completely different adaptor for this type of ALDL connector. My young bloke owns a VN and my dad owns a VP ,so I am trying to get it working on them.I also thought Id try to make an adaptor from the toyota radio connector which is the mating connector for the VN/VP 6 pin ALDL connector under the glove box.Id still like to know what the go is with the adaptor and the 2 pins being swapped..They cant be changed, they adaptors are a solid plastic block basically with the pins moulded inside it and its sealed, so it cant be modified. And then theres the adaptor part number.Theres no A after the adaptor number on mine, the number is the same though.Someone on here who works at a holden dealer might be able to tell me what their Tech 1 VN /VP adaptor part number is.Mine says on it part number TAO2329 "holdens 6 pin ALDL adaptor" "to be used with Tech 1 when testing holdens vehicles equipped with 6 pin ALDL connectors" and the connector fits the ALDL connector perfectly. The VN program cartridge also has menus for VL group A,camira, and astra, they all use the same 6 pin connector as the VN/VP one as far as I know.I just dont know what the go is with it.I cant even get hold of the guy I got it off to ask him.Anyway, hopefully someone who reads this will know something about all this and be able to shed some light, thanks.
