Default Changing a diff, the center or the whole?

Hi everyone, the mechanic has told me that the diff center is stuffed (makes noise but still runs okay) I have another vehicle as a donor, is it difficult to change the center or is it easier to change the whole diff (axle to axle)?
If I replace just the center, will one bolt straight in or will it need to be shimmed/adjusted to suit?
Yes, the diff does make enough noise to justify doing this...

The vehicle is a 92 exec sedan auto V6

Is there a how-to on changing either of these?

    Thanx...

Yeah, you won't have the tools to do the centre swap yourself even if you had the know how to shim it up good.
I have similar stuff going on, in east of melbourne I have a quote for 3.45 gears & LSD added with re-race & seals for $950.
If you are after the cheapest option and have that donor then yeah, swap over Mr Axle as a unit. What are the brake discs like on the donor?

I'm pretty sure they're okay, worst comes to worst I'll put the originals back on.
Has anyone else c/o their diff? what bolts and how many? Replace bushes and etc?
I want to put lower springs in too, obviously this would be a good time for that...

How do you know what I have got in my shed??? Have you been looking again? What do you think I need?
i have a reasonable range of tools, but no experience in this case...

Yes, Unless you can set the tolerences and re-shim it, Just swap it over as a whole, With 2 people itl take 6 hours tops..... Ive helped with one or 2 :P

If you just being stupid and welding the center ( youll **** ya diff any way ) dont bother, Rip it out weld it, Throw it back in as it came out.

Give it hell, Snap axle stuff spline etc

Then just swap whole unit out.
