hey everyone, just a quick word to let you all know of my new project

i just purchased a holden vns2 from the wrecker's, the thing has absolutely no body dammage, interior is fine, all the gages work, how ever, the engine dont work, and the gearbox is rooted, diff has locked up,

everyone put your thinking cap's on, this is gonna be fun, im talking about a complete rebuild of the engine, converting from auto to manual, dropping a lsd into it, lowering the bad girl, respray and doing some seriouse rewiring of the thing.

you all keep your eye's and ear's posted here, this will be fun, (and very expensive

    cheers

well, day one of the rebuild began, what more can i say, talk about fun, im up to my arm's in greese, and lovin it

we got planes for this car, (i have a friend geoff helping me with this one,)

we are gonna be dropping it on it's gut's, making the suspension harder gonna try to get rid of some of the body roll, we are looking at body kit's, there is a bloke up here who you can take your idea to and he will see what he can do, most importantly gonna drop a turbo charger into it. damm is she gonna go mad

ripped out the entire back of the car today, removed the suspension, axil, diff. put her up on 2 trolly jacks so we can still move it around. it was purchased from the wrecker with the diff frozen, someone has taken the time to open the filler cap up and fill it with little stones, hence why its frozen, there is a bloke up the road who will hone the diff, gonna ring him and see what he can do for us, ripped out the wiring for the entire back of the car, their aint a single cable running past the driver's seat now, and not one cable was marked, we are gonna completly re-wire it up, it's amazing the car was still standing, the back right shock had come out of it's little socked, and well, what more can i say, it was leaning pretty badly.

ill keep eveorne up to date with it, but one thing i do wanna know, is it legal to put bigger disc's on the back and front for brakes, we are talkng dual pistion callipar's with a bigger braking disc for improved braking. any ideas on that one?

    cheers

Garth sounds like your going to have a fun filled few months or years ahead of you!

I hope you have a digital camera? Just so we can all see the progress you are making with it

I was talking to a guy last week who knows someone who works at Sprint Auto, now as we all know the Commodore goes from the factory to the HSV guys and from there it transforms into something special. Anyway all the rotors which comes off the cars someone has to buy them right? Well Sprint Auto do. The price for the calipers, brake lines etc was around $450 and considering these are pretty much brand new it's a bargain in my eyes. The only thing left to do is decide on pads which I personally think Bendix Ultimates you can't go past.

As for the rotor's being illegal/legal if they are bigger, I am not 100% sure but I highly doubt it, after all they are going to vastly improving braking so why would they. Perhaps it might be worth a call to an engineering firm. In Adelaide it's called Regency which involves the cowboys down there going over the car with a fine tooth comb and finding any fault with it before it's allowed back on the road. From what I've heard they pick on the slightest little things.

Look forward to hearing what happens in the near future and I'll hope I can answer some of the questions you have along the merry way hehe.

    Cheers

right, diff is out, it's kinda pretty cool, when you shake the bloody thing, it rattles realy bad, yeah, it's kinda busted i guess you can say. the whole back of the car is out, it sure wanst much fun, some part's did require a sledge hammer with gental persuasion involved, but she came out, (that's what happens when you get 2 guy's fully drunk doing it) anyone out thee know the legal requirements for suspension, e.g. how low can i go, what can and cant i do to it.

    cheers

p.s. this is what happens when you get a electrican and a plumber doing up a car, we just belt the crap out of stuff, probably not a good idea, it's not like we would have killed the suspension at the rear, it was already rooted

with your car in qld lower it as long as its 110mm from the ground a good guide is if you can drive your car over a coke can withont touching it at the lowest part your fine. also I know a panel beater/spray painter who will do a full repray on any car for $2000.

the thing is, i heard along the grape vine that if you make any mod's to brakes or the brakes system, you need it to be passes by a engernier. i spoke to qld transport, and they said prety much the same, i got a list of stuff i have to do before i make any mod's to the so called "safety section" of the car

jamie, i know why it was at the wreckers, it was a stolen recovered car, and the dammage to engine was considered a writeoff, i got a repaireable writeoff certificate with it when i got it, also did a cop check, it's been noted as stolen recovered. so all in all, the car is fine. it's gonnan take quite alot of time to do it, unfortunatly, my other vn has been playing up, i have to invest some money in fixing it up first before i can spend more on this one. hope it wont take to long
