i wont jump for joy yet. but i think i fixed the car. it was stalling a lot till it got warm engine. ie stalling at stop signs etc, could not idle for more than a minute.
i put in new O2 sensor, old sensor filthy, carbon build up wrecked it. still not worked, so i tackled the throttle today, took it apart, found the fuel rail was not done up, one nut loose and rail wobbles. the fuel return line split, so fixed that, then the fuel return pipe on fuel tank hissing, found it loose, so tightened the clamp up. then inside throttle it was clogged with carbon and also bell mouth was removed, so i know last owner had been in their. the idle and mat sensor intakes full of carbon/soot which i used cotton buds to clean out, i then put the throttle on some paper and sprayed the hell out of it with oven cleaner till it was shining again and cleaned out the inlets to the sensors. she now purs like a kitten. will know in the morning if its fixed, but so far its handling it good. i also found no gasket on throttle either, i did not have one when i reinstalled but hope that wont cause a drama.
major problem i have is no tachometer and not owned a commodore or v6 before, so unsure just how much it should pur, so will search the net for a video of a commodore vp idling.
also should i find a new bell mouth for it? i have read this can cause it to run rough if not installed.
hey mate, the bellmouth is another one of those things that some people swear its good and others say it doesnt make any difference. its not a bad idea, you could pick one up for a few dollars at a wreckers and try it out for yourself. i would also recommend getting a new gasket for your throttle body. theyre cheap (you can buy them at holden or repco or any places like that) and also with your idle, its good if it sits at around 600-800 revs. also dont be surprised if the car shakes a little little little bit at idle, thats just the buick engines, theyre not the most smoothest engines around
