i want to put a 12volt and Oil pressure gauge in my 1990 VN Commodore. i want to put them in my console under my stereo, is there a way to take out the section that is there and make a new section with the gauges in them?

Sorry to hijack the theard but I like the look of the seats you have in your car there, what are they?

As for the gauges, troll through the members cars forum and have a look at different interior photos of peoples cars, get some good ideas that way. I like what FXST01 has done, very tidy.

Nice to see some fabrication work SXT01.

Dazza_211, the binnacle surround is a separate piece. You can easily remove it; pull up the piece around the gear lever and you will see three screws under the binnacle surround. With those removed, the surround will simply pull out. The switch(es) can then be disconnected.

You can then attack it/modify it as much as you like. The jiffy boxes sold by electronic stores for protecting electronics projects are a good source of reasonably substantial plastic for mounting gauges onto.

Easiest will be to simply cut a piece out to match the hole in the surround but you could fill and paint like FXST01.

Prototype the shapes in cardboard - cereal boxes are good.

If you screw up, there will be heaps of surrounds at the wreckers.
