    Default Wiper Arms

    Hey all.

My wiper arms have enuff play in them to hit the lip of the bonnet if your not being carefull changeing blades washing windscreen etc.

Is there a fix for this ? or just live with your wiper arms ****ing the edge of your bonet ( freshly painted bonnet !!!! )

If it wasnt raining i would of removed them and done multiple line locks over them " shakes fist at wiper arms "

hmm, there shouldnt be too much play in them, is the bonnet lining up correctly, u could have it set too close to the windscreen.

The same thing happend on my dads falcon, the nuts the hold bolt the wiper arms on came loose so they were swinging around like crazy. Lift up the flap on the wiper arms and you'll find the nut that holds the arms to the car and just tighten it up and you should be fine.

It's likely that the plastic bushes in the wiper linkage have worn or deteriorated - common problem. Ultimately the linkage will fail. It's fairly straightforward to replace and the linkage is only ~$40 through Holden spare parts.

There is a "How To" on replacing the motor and linkage as an assembly. What is missing in that is how to set up the motor in the linkage. The final link has to sit on the motor splines with the linkage in the parked position. You used to get a jig to line up the arm on the splines with a new linkage but not any more, so before removing the link from the motor mark the position or, better, make a jig from cardboard that matches the arm to the motor.

A tip when removing the wiper arms is to lift the arms and put a nail in the hole and slot that is near the base of the wiper arm. This will hold the spring tension and make it easy to remove the arms.

Dont think the bonnet would shut as it has to line up at the front to lock!
