ive got a VN berlina thats had a VP engine transplant due to blowin the other one up.
where does the o2 sensor from the VP plug into now? im pretty sure the o2 sensor is the purple wire coming from the engine, and on the already existing VN wiring, there is a free plug near the throttle cable which looks like it takes 2 sockets, where as the purple wire is only one plug type.
Bascially what im asking is how do i go about plugging the o2 sensor from a VP engine into the o2 sensor wiring from a VN?
dont really expect people to know what im talkin about from my crappy description but if you can work it out that would be awesome!
thanks guys
swap them over. you probably have a single wire O2 sensor on one engine and a 2 wire sensor on the other. no biggie, swap them.
what do you mean when you say swap them over? like go to the wreckers cut out a sensor from a VP (car) and cut the one i have on my car (VN) and solder the VP one on there? so that i can plug in the sensor wire from the VP engine?
sorry if that seems like a whole lot of babble but its hard to explain the problem ive got, ill post up a pic tomorrow when ive got the car
by the way thanks dude
the problem would be trying to a plug a two wire sensor into the old one wire system right?
It think it is the purple wire, the purple wire is the signal wire, (computer) the black is an earth I think.
You will need to copy the wiring from a vp though, just a cable of extra bits of wire for you to lay lol
yeah youre right, the VP only has one wire coming out of the manifold and it is purple, whereas the wire provided by the VN has 2 plug holes.
so what youre saying is unscrew the purple wire sensor from manifold and get a VN sensor and srew that intot he vp motor?
is there any way of changing the existing wiring from the VN to VP wiring? so that it just has one plug? coz i want to keep the original sensor in there for the same reason you said about different temps.
i just dont really know how i would convert those 2 wires into one? would i just take the ground and stick somewhere ont he frame and then go ahed and plug in the purple wire?
id be swap the sensor to the 1 wire that was there
but if you dont want to identify the earth and earth it connect the purple to the signal

oh ok so you reckon its cool to just connect the 2 purple wires together? (only coz they wont actually fit into each other since they are totally different shapes) does it make a difference that it's a VP engine in a VN? or does it just send a different signal? and just ground the black wire to the body of the car?
i took some pictures anyway.
vn series 2 and vp have 2 wire plug dont know why your supposid vp engine only has a 1 wire o2 sensor just connect it to the purple wire in the loom she will be fine no need to do anything with the earth wire

put the earth wire to the engine or chassis or something, the single wire o2 sensor earths through the manifold which is shit, thats why holden went to two wire o2 sensors.
hey sorry to bring this one up again but how bad is the earth through the manifold?
because i sourced a single wire plug yesterday and only realised now if i was to earth the black wire i would just be stripping it back and then connecting it somewhere to the body since i don't have a seperate plug for it.
any opinions/ideas?
this is my situation now
me i'd just use the o2 sensor from the motor you pulled out
VN Calais With All The Factory Fruit I Need!
would me not having the o2 sensor plugged in also be the reason my engine light is comin on every now and then?
EDIT: just read around and saw people somethimes have the same problem when theyre o2 sensor sh*ts itself so yer im guessin that is the reason
without it plugged in will run shit due to being extra rich by default when the o2 is unplugged and will trigger engine light

just lettin everyone know i used my single pruple wire plug, and then stripped back the black wire and connected it to the chasis.
as soon as i cranked her over i noticed straight away it was heaps smoother. wasn't expecting that much of a difference so pretty happy with the dodgy job for now till i get a better plug.
thanks again guys
