hello all,
ivegot school holidays, and ive been working on my car all hols lol, cleaned it up, took seats out ect, degrased bay bla bla, now i want it to go better soo...
1: what do i need apart from the memcal itself as i have one from the wreckers
2: what programs ect do i need to edit it?
3: how much of it needs to be bought or DIY'd?
4: what exactly can i do with eprom and memcal? (like what can i adjust and tinker with)
any help extrememly apreciated in advance.
1. a tool kit, a supercharger or cam, engine gasket set, knowledge of how to pull apart and put back together the engine
2. ones that you dont have or knowhow to use so dont bother wasting your time or cash on it
3. if your talking memcal, dont DIY, other engine mods DIY.
4. u can take it out of the ECU and put it back in. in between this, it will spend alot of its time at a specialist centre getting modified to suit your vehicle on a dyno
why such scathing comments ?2. ones that you dont have or knowhow to use so dont bother wasting your time or cash on it
time to ones self costs nothing vn stuff isnt expensive how else to learn about efi things with out playing with them.
find the thread on here about how the boys made the interface cable to do diagnostics .
download and have a look at as many aftermarket ecu software you can find. lots of emulators I think the most holden memcals are 1 time write able.
What do you want to do?

Take a look around DelcoHacking.net, you'll need a few hours spare
Delcowizzid can do you good priced tunes. He's done my TwinTurbo tune to a tea...
You only have to buy a eprom burner to read from or write to the eprom chip, and a UV eraser to blank the eprom chip so it can be re written to.Both available from ebay fairly cheap. The program to read/change the bin file on the eprom chip is free to download (I use the free edition of tunerpro). You can adjust the timing maps and fuel maps etc which will change engine timing and fuel air mixtures..You just need to live scan the engine data when trying new changes to keep an eye on air/fuel mixtures and knock counts. You dont want a blown engine.Small changes are the best way to go.Change a value a small amount and try it.
I read somewhere someone described it as just like the old days of changing the timing and carby jetting, just nowdays its done by changing values in a mapping on a computer....
You can also check out other performance bin files that are available for download from the net.Just check out what has been changed and compare it to a standard bin file to get an idea what is done. .
i guess, i rememebr playing with memcals on VN's when i was younger, wasnt too difficult to do simple little things not realted to ing and fuelling, but engine timing and fuelling was out of the question for me as i didnt want to stuff enigne as you really need dyno. but cant remember what i used, borrowed from someone.
In case it has been missed, at the bottom of this thread is a list of similar threads. The one titled "Memcals" by greenfoam is a really good place to start.
Cruising around the Moates site is also useful.
