I have been having problems VN. It all started to go wrong when the car just stopped while doing 100km's. Since then...we have replaced the crank angle sensor and water pump. It is still stalling or wont start, we think we have found the problem with this wire. does anyone know where or to what this earth wire goes to? (please see pic) would appreciate any and all help.
I believe it is an earth for the ECU to the engine block. That looks like a replacement lug so make sure it has been crimped on properly and not just with a pair of pliers or those cheap crimping tools. I had to fix the one on my VN and from memory the stud came out of the block and it goes into the water jacket. You can check the resistance to the negative terminal of the battery and if it is high remove the stud and clean it up.
if u have a good wrecker with a yard full of commodores i have found lately i am learning a heap from them, ie i am finding where the wires go and what goes where.
Thanks for your reply... Does the earth for the ECU need to go to the engine block or if its just to anywhere on the car body? I dont know much about engines (my brother in law is helping)...but I can do basic wiring lol
If this wire is faulty...would it cause the engine to keep stopping..or not start at all?
It must go to the engine block, and yes it will cause those problems. If you were to disconnect it the ECM wouldn't have a main earth at all, and it needs to be a good connection to get clean signals from all the sensors.
