have a vn calais 5l stroked to 355 and bit of other work done, but had standard belt setup up and it had to much power from crank it slipped on water pump and alternator. and wrecked belt so we put a gilmer kit to stop slipping, worked well for slipping but as soon as you stomp onto it it snaps the alternator in half. NOT the bracket the whole casing just breaks.
can anyone suggest any ideas or where to get a billet steel cased alternator or steel one even???
thanks
Is the pressure on the belt too tight? Just a thought
not to tight thought that but wasnt. any other ideas
The stocko belt should never had slipped if it was tight enough. Just cause you stroked the motor dosnt mean theres any extra load on the water pump and alternator. My guess is you never did it up tight enough in the first place as they do need to be overly taught to get the alt belt not to slip. I usually use a podgy bar between the alt and block to get it tight enough so it dosnt slip.
Pics of alt would be good to see, to see how it has broken.
when i read the title i though...... Gilmer belt tightened to much![]()
