    Default vp heater vac lines

    Hey guys,
Just picked up another vp, it was too cheap to say no, just been playing around with the little things today, one issue i am having is the heater vacume lines seem to be stuffed, leaking, not vacuming.

Basically the heater is stuck on floor level and cant be changed, at first i thought it could be the module, so I swapped it for the one out of my ute, still not working, so it must be the vacume lines.

is there any way/trick to trace back where the leak is? should i be able to feel the vacume if i put a finger over the end of the line at the module? I have a feeling the lines are crimped somewhere, as they dont come out very far from the console, the other plugs to the module have about 10-15cm more length in them,

I really dont want to have to pull the dash to find this issue, (i just did a full dash conversion in the ute, not up for another one out right now) is there any trick to working out where the leak could be?

Check the vacuum reserve tank under the passenger side front guard. The reserve tank looks like a black plastic ball and has a vacuum hose connected to it..Also check the vacuum line between it and the engine for splits or cracks etc..

there is now, all fixed, my own stupidity, (always is) i had to jump start the car to get it home, didnt think much of it, shagged battery, so while fixing other things i put a better battery in it, which gave it enough juice to not only run, but to create vacuum.

somewhere in the back of my head i had the thought, there is enough power to run the blower fan, so it should switch, obviously not, wierd part is, the controls wouldnt switch over while i was driving it home..... oh well, they are now at least.

I doubt the battery would effect the vacuum of the engine. If the engine is running at idle, then the vacuum available from the engine will be high.Once the throttle is opened up a fair way, the engine creates less vacuum. This is why a vacuum leak somewhere can cause the heater controls to move by themselves from floor to face or vice versa when the throttle is opened a fair way, such as when going up a long steep hill. With the engine making little or no vacuum on top of a vacuum leak ,the vacuum level gets too low to hold the heater flaps in their set positions, and thats why they move back to their default or home positions..In your case it seems there was no vacuum getting through to the heater controls at all for some reason.Strange that it started working again. But at least it is now working.Good one.
