Hi we just bought a vp 92 mod. When we turn the lights on the rear brake lights dont come on at all and the brake light in the rear spoiler stays on. Turn the lights off and the break lights are fine. Any ideas on the possible causes. Its my sons first car.
check the tail light woring harness for the following;
1. good earths at each lamp socket.
2. damaged or corroded contacts in the sockets
3. incorrect globes forced in, there are stop and stop tail globes, they generally dfon't interchange but someone may have forced them.
Let us know what you find.
also check the connector in the loom think its near the b pillar
That kind of thing is usually the end of the loom at the rear lights, about 1 foot of wiring from the tail light plugs to the connector, the connections in the socket corrode and the bulbs start backfeeding through each others earth. I've heard they are no longer available at Holden but no harm trying Repco, Bursons etc.... They can be fixed by the bloody minded but it's no simple matter.
"Electric life" in sydney rd coburg (melbourne) may make recoed loom ends, they should only cost 20 bucks each or so. Have fun, I'm glad mine are fixed now.

I once had a similar problem and it turned out to simply be a faulty stop/tail globe, it was a brand new globe and took ages to figure out. Somewhere in that tiny globe it was shorting out and turning the wrong circuit on and off.
