I recently bought a vn manual, been driving it around no problems at all, 5 days later the engine fan takes a dump, i was in the city and had to call out RACV because my car was over heating, the problem being that the engine fan would not turn on when required, even when the aircon is on the engine fan does not turn on( although my aircon needs to be regased if that matters) he took out the engine fan relay under the bonnet and jammed a red wire into it, that keeps the engine fan running continuously, and if i want the engine fan to turn off i have to pop the hood and take out the fuse, or wire, has any one herd of this problem before??
HAHAHAHA!!!!....they gave me a license
ya i think i have the same problem i havent found what it is thou and what the RACV guy did was just earth the relay (which i also did), my theory is the ecu but i have been told im way off and i also have been studying the wiring scematics of a vn to no avail, having the fan on all the time is slowly costing me more fuel anyone with some ideas would help greatly
have you checked the fuse for the fan in the inside of the car under the steering wheel? my vn had no fuse there at all :| so put one in and was all good![]()
i really wish that were the problem, but no, my engine fan was running for a bit then, as far as im aware, haha

wire up an external temp switch to run the engine fan relay ?
Have you tried changing the relay? Swap it with the horn relay and try the horn. If the horn works its not the relay. If the relay is fine test the 2 remaining terminals that you havent been bridging with a bit of wire to make sure there is positive (+) on one of them when the ignition is turned on. If positive found it could be the ecu or wiring from relay to ecu.
Hope this helps.
Go get a test light there pretty cheap from repco or even supercheap
Did the dude give you the relay back or just chuck it? If it got tossed then there's a good chance you just need another relay. Are you sure that with a relay in place your fan ain't working ok? I've heard of RAC dudes doing this to leave the fan on 100% to alleviate other cooling issues and get you home. Do get a test light, get a few lengths of wire 1 to 1.5 metres long from the wreckers and some smallish alligator clips from jaycar or tandy etc. With these simple household items you can diagnose nearly all electrical problems on your car.

if u could go through the whole bridging process in depth with me and how it works id appreciate that, do i leave the already bridged connection in.....or????
