ok so i looked under my car today and theres a patch of oil the size of a tire :'( and when stopped at traffic lights i have smoke coming out from under the car and the really strong smell of burning oil its a 5.0L any ideas people im thinking rear main FML might need to start looking for a new motor cause i cant be bothered fixing this one its got 300,000kms on the clock![]()
Check first too see if the oil sump is pierced, or maybe one of the bolts holding it to the block has come loose, doubtful, but it surely could happen. If not, then start looking for a crack in the block.
When I changed the Transmission gasket, filter and oil i didn't tighten one nut properly, and the oil was spilling out the crack and dropping onto the exhaust, hence the smoke. So, if there isn't a pircing in the sump and what not, locate where the smoke is coming from and bobs your uncle.
i had a similar problem but was power stearing fluid. when it runs down it seems to get on the exhaust and burn my leak was slow but in a week it emptyed the entire container of fluid and after i started the car after a week it started smoking from just under the drivers side undercarrage and i lifted the bonet and it just went everywhere. srry to say i havent found where the leak is but i did replace my power stearing pump as it is a slow leak and my car is running around daily again it dont smoke up so when i find my leak (if it wasnt the pump) i'll post results it may help
thanks mate im actually thinking its the rear main seal though cause its coming from that area
