    Arrow pacemakers rubbing

Dose enyone else have a 5 speed VN V6 with pacemakers?(Not sure if auto's do it aswell)
If so do they rub on under hard acceleration.
Ive talked to the fitter over the phone and he said to expect it to happen.
It doesn't bother me much but if in the main street and want to get out in a hurry i get this massive grind noise.
Why would pacemaker desigh ther extractors to be 3 mm away from the plate under the gearbox (not sure what its called) even though theres plenty of room.
Over time its goung to rub through to steel and RUST.
    Any comments would be great

That's not good if pacemakers aren't suited for Holden VNs V6s. Considering that the dude that left Genie started this company going.

Hi HDT_aero,Yup have the paces y-piece,my exhaust seems to shudder when givin a bit of premium,i get a knockin' noise under my left foot from where the exhaust is vibrating, anywayz don't think much can be done about it,i had a look underneath, not much room, pointless i think talking to the guy who installed them....Maybe i'll rig up some shock absorbers/padding of some sort for the exhaust

Mmm, unless I am wrong. But I think it's rare for enging mounts in a VN to cause trouble.

Hmmm yeah not the engine mounts, this annoyance only arose after installation of extractors/exhaust.

I know you got a VN but in my VK 202 i put some paccies on and they are so damn close to the starter motor it's like it sits on it, well neally(and if i move the cable thats on the starter motor around i can cause sparks as it hits the extractors), and it ends very close to the transmission. It grinds only under real hard acceleration. I've changed all 3 engine mounts (the 2 engine ones and gearbox one at rear) and still does it. Maybe the paccies I got were meant for a manual car? Looks like i may have to take em out and get someone to bend them a little so it sits off the starter. Well thats my story lol.

That may be the case, Chevy_Big_Block you may have to get your y piece bent a little to stop them touching.

Take my advice or don't take it, I don't care. But the amount of VN - VP commodores that came through the workshop I use to work at with this problem and was fixed with engine mounts and/or gearbox mount was phenemonial (spelling).

The pacies are a very snug fit, hence why if the mounts are out they cause this problem. More common with the VN for some reason.

Guys, I seriously look at the engine mounts and the gearbox mount as these do collapse with age and throw the alignment of the exhaust out. I had extractors fitted to my VP and the right bank sat on the return line from the steering rack and almost burned thru! When new mounts were fitted, the exhaust had to be realigned as it began to hit the floor and break exhaust hangers. By the way the metal bar in front of the bellhousing is called the transmission brace. Hope this helps,
    Regards Kev.

hey i just had this problem got my pacies put on my vp v6 manual had the griding/rubbing noise under my feet thought shit my diff must be on its way took it back to the shop they jacked the car up it was hitting my crossmember and bellhousing a quick 3 mm of the crossmember and a little rub to the pacies where it was touching the bellhousing and shes fine i can accelerate hard as and no noise now so get under the car and look around the bellhousing and crossmember see if any rub marks are on your pacies and i think this will fix the problem all u need is a little 3inch grinder dont worry bout the engine mounts unless your cars had a bad shunt they shouldnt move

No the engine doesn't have to come out. The driver's side mount is the one that takes the most punishment usually, but it is advisable to change both. If you support the engine either from above or with a jack, the crossmember can be removed and the mount unbolted from the engine brackets. The passenger side is a bit tight due to the air con compressor, unbolt it and support from the inner rail. Fit the new mounts but leave the driver's side loose, offer up the x-member and attach the passenger side mount, then the driver's side and bolt everything up. Hope this helps, Kev.

Took car down to where extractors were fitted, extractors were ok,anyway it is the engine mounts even though i was told by another mechanic they were ok,drivers side mount was worn and that adds up to why i was getting knocked on that side ,but anywayz i'll get both replaced. Now i was quoted $160,now even though i'll shop around for a few more quotes, is that reasonable?cheers.

So i gather whisky, getting the mounts replaced and fitted for $160 is reasonable, seeing that buying the mounts is from $90-$130 without them fitted.cheers
