Hi guys, i know it will fit, been reading around and looking at other peoples interior change overs. My question here is, what do i need to do the full swap, aside from the obvious things like door cards, the dash etc what do i need from behind the dash to make it all bolt up? Would I be better chasing down a VR interior to swap over with them having the same motor?
Matt
if u keep ur existing wiring loom the dash and door cards swap easily enough
original cluster will still work
relocate hazard switch wiring
relocate (and rewire) headlight switch lighting - took some time to figure out but if u keep ur swichblocks its easy enough
depending what else u use on ur switchblock u will need to relocate as well..
ud have it all done in a day.
if u changed wiring loom over as well - then youd need the full dash & doorcards
also need the vr/vs instrument cluster (vp one wont work with vr/vs wiring)
everything else should be easy.
other than that the dash is a straight bolt up - and door cards u will have to use the vr/vs ones because they had the airvent thingy on the door.
oh forgot one last thing the vac box behind the dash - changing it is the best option - different aircon ducting - otherwise u can modify the vac box ducting - by memory the demister is the issue - it doesnt come out the top vents properly needed to mod the airflow with some cardboard box stuff.
The dash will 'bolt in' with a few bolts, but there's a bunch of issues that need to be sorted out, aside from the physical mounting of the dash
These include (but not limited to):
- Windscreen wiper switch different on VR - mounted on steering column.
- Rear demister, cruise, etc etc switches all different
- Headlight switch different
- Heater vents from the HVAC box into the dash do not line up - this may render some of your vents (including front demister) useless
- VN/VP door cards will not line up nicely - due to VR/VS having vents on the actual doors.
You can either modify all the switch wiring etc to work, or you can use an entire VR wiring loom and:
- modify the headlight extension looms to get headlights working (the VN swithc with a pos trigger, VR neg trigger, or visa-versa)
- modify the plug that connects the Engine harness to the body harness in order to get the VN/VP ECU working
this way all the wiring just plugs in (with the exception of above two bits), and your wipers, rear demister, etc etc all work.
If you want to go all out, you can put a VR firewall in to your VN/VP and this will give you the adjustable steering column, make the HVAC box work and plug in all sweet, etc.
so to sum it up - to get it in there and have everything working as per factory - it's a pretty big job!
mmmmm, sounds like it is a big job.
The main reason is I want to change the dash out cause I hate the blue colour, want a grey one. Might just find a grey VP dash in good nick, I like the look of the VR/VS dash but not sure if i prefer it enought to stuff around that much.
Got some time to think about it, gotta paint the car first.
I like the VP dash much more than any of the later models, put a dash mat on top maybe.
