So this might sound like a stupid question, but, im replacing my O2 sensor and was wondering if i could spray anything into the hole where it goes just to clean out the manifold abit, so the new one doesnt get gunked up right away.
stupid idea orrr..?
thanks
Don't worry about it.
It gets pretty hot in there dude, anything not worth its salt will burn off anyway.
Just make sure the threads are clean (you can put a little bit of anti seize compound on if you want) and screw it in.
The O2 sensor comes with anti seize on it and it instructs that you do not use any additional anti seize incase it is not of a suitable type and contaminates (ruins) the new sensor. Also there sometimes easier to get out when the manifold is hot and you have to be careful fitting the new one not to over tighten it and/or crack the ceramic.
Be careful removing them hot, you may burn yourself.
Best method I have found is soak them over at least a 2-3 hour period with WD40 or equivalent and use the correct spanner, not a shifter.
I wore a pair of gloves when I changed mine and used a ring spanner as they are too tall for a normal socket.
