ahyeah so seems like im gonna get the stage 2/3 one, anyone got a ruff idea on installation price by a mechanic? and is it a big job?
The Stage 2 kit is defo more than adequate!. SHould take a qualified mechanic between 1 and 3 hours to fit and cost upto $400 to install. Pays to get them to change your filter while they're at it. It's a pretty easy install and someone that's never done it before could do it in under a day being really careful. There are a lot of springs and all to this kit so it is time consuming installing them all and making sure they all go in the right place. If you get one of these kits, you won't need to pay for the 500 boost valve seperately, coz it's already in the kit. Also get a corvette servo, but stay away from the bilet ones as they're way too rough on the trans and I've heard of a lot of people that have taken them back out due to poor driveabillity.
The cheapest place to get these is on ebay, but look at the international sellers listings "these aussie sellers will charge ya around $200 which is twice of what you could get it from in america and shipped down!!!" . I got a transgo stage 2 heavy-duty kit for $100 and $20 postage. Also the corvette 2nd and 4th servo was only an extra $20. Damn, just the corvette 2nd is around $30-$40 here. Also, if you consider getting one of these kits you should replace the accumulator piston. This is cheap at around $20-$30 and will also help protect your bands.
I'd highly recommend these guys, as they're as cheap as hell and very reliable. It usually takes around 2 weeks to get your items in the post and their prices can't be beaten: Lakes Transmission items - Get great deals on AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, FILTERS items on eBay Stores!
Lakes transmission!!!
Definitely cheaper from the states, got myself a heap of bits for under half the price of aussie stores. I went with the corvette servo over the billet servo's, mostly for price but didn't want the shifts to be too hard.
.500 boost valve is only included in the 4L60E kits not the TH700 kits, I grabbed a .300 reverse valve while I was at it too. I'm yet to install it all but it seems pretty straight forward from the instructions, I have the engine and trans out of the car though so that makes it a bit easier![]()

Hey mate depends on how wild you want it, I've got a transgo in mine with a corvette servo and a boost valve, the boost valve doesn't come in the kit and you can go without it but I recommend you get a corvette servo, my friend an auto specialist sorta explained stage 1 2 3 is talk for how hard you want it to shift and stage 3 I think is generally manual-auto, depending on what you want I had a full manual stage 3 in my charged vp v6 and it was just too much it would chirp it's face off and feel much to harsh on my tail shaft diff and recoed IRS driveshafts, now I have a 'stage 1' and it shifts firm and positive under throttle and driving it normal it behaves like a normal car, doesn't chirp tho it's on 19s it will step out in the wet, Goodluck with it. Cheers
I also found that this deal about the corvette servo install on their own causing the gearbox to chirp between 1st and 2nd is total BS. I've done a couple of these autos along with the corvette servo's and Transgo shift kits, and find only after installing 2 or 3 1-2 accumulator piston shims "which are designed to make a harder shift" you will get the 1-2 chirp. Just changing the servo on its own with a corvette one won't do it!. Can't vouch for the billet ones as of yet, but I reckon it'll do the same thing as the corvette one.
