Morning all,
I like to service my VN every 5 months, give or take.
I was running KLG Spark plugs which are cheap and only cost me $30 all up.
Last week i went to auto-barn and figured this time i will buy some proper spark plugs. So i bought some Bosch platinum plugs for $180 and wow what a difference.
For some strange reason my vn seems to prefer the klg's. When i had them in, the car was running very smooth and as soon as i turned the key it would fire up.
After putting in the Bosch plugs it now take about 2 cranks to start and is idling a little bit more rough. nothing to complain about but you can definitely tell the difference just from sitting in the car when its idling.
I got the proper Bosch plugs for a vn s1 motor. I made sure they were all tight and what not.
I'm still going to leave them in because i didn't spend $180 for nothing. But its just strange on why my car prefers the cheap stuff lol.
nothing wrong with the stanard NGK plugs @ $3.50 each.
those long life platinum plugs are for car where you have to dis-assemble 1/2 the engine to get the plugs out

I was going to buy NGK's before i went into autobarn, but the guy who was giveing me advice sucked me in lol. might just get some new klg's tomorrow. $180 down the drain.
and what did you mean buy you have to dis-assemble half the engine to get them out? (sht my self when i read that so i went out and made sure they weren't stuck on hahaha)
hhaha na he ment some cars are real hard to get to the spark plugs, and ya have to pull heaps of shit off to get to them.. so they put longer life plugs in so dont have to change them as often..
also- i got 6x bosch platinum for my vt for $40 ..... why u paying $180?
im guessing you have platinum plus? I got platinum fusion, figured if they cost that much they must be good. Major regret
ohh ok, yes i do, i've thought about the fusion or iridium but the price is bullshit, didnt think they were $180 but... always wondered if they were worth getting thou. but i guess there not, nowcheers..
i tend to trust the ngk $3.50 ones too, just cause they've been around for so long.
just a thought, ya didnt damage a lead when changing ya plugs did ya?, mayb causing ya harder start n rough idle.. you'd think $180 plugs would run perfect ..
I hope i didn't damage anything. As i said i intended on getting the ngk's i took them out the little box and they just look really cheap. But now that i have been reading all the threads about spark plugs i now know that the ngk's are the way to go.
I guess its true what they say, you learn from your mistakes lol
could try buying a $5 single long lead and swap ya leads over 1 by 1 and see if 1 is stuffed.. i'd want to keep those plugs in my car if i were you....
ive always used the bosch 4 prong ones, very good plug will continue to use them on the ve, dunno why u paid $180 tho i paid $125 for 6 at supercheap
not sure about power or anything, they do last agesss and ive noticed engine runs more smoothely with better fuel eco and $125 bucks isnt really much to me for that lol
heres a good vid about them: YouTube - ‪Bosch Spark Plug Technology‬‎ the ones i use are the very last ones in the vid
Easier if you take al the leads off and resistance check them with a multimeter, there is a max. resistance based on the length. You may have also damaged one when you changed the plugs or even cracked a plug.
As far as plugs go anything more than the standard ones in a stock engine is a waste of money. Last lot of genuine plugs I bought cost me about $12 from Holden and there good for 45,000km or 27 months. The ones I took out were genuine and the car was running fine and they were hardly worn.
I've used genuine plugs in my VN when I had it for about 10 years and never had a problem with them.
