ok im thinking about buying a VN SS 5LTR Auto (year unknown)
i haven't seen it in the flesh YET... however this is the breakdown of what it supposedly has:
240000 km... pretty high!!
16" mags
extractors
missing: rear spoiler & radio
small dent in roof and left guard ("apparently" both are quite small)
motor, gearbox and diff are apparently all ok
sold as is with NO rego or RWC
car looks OK in the pics from what i can see
they are asking $3000 for it...
im after opinions on what would be a good price for it?
also, what else should i be looking for if i were to buy it? common problems etc
cheers everyone!!
hey mate that doesent sound to bad if anything always try to knock the price down a bit as woth any purchase. As for problems just check around the front and rear windscreens for rust and inside the boot aswell as these are common problem areas. other ther than that just check for oil/coolant leaks, check all the fluids in the car and just see what they are like. just in general have a look around the car and ensure it is what you want and obviously try to test drive it and listen for knocks an d other noise wich could be worn out suspension components. etc, good luck with the car an d dont forget to keep us all posted on its progress if you get it mate. cheers
240000 on a 1988 VN? Shit! That is good. plenty of newer cars a round with 4-5 years under the belt and with 100000plus k's on the clock.
It's not a museum piece
well, its sucks to say, but it they sold it b4 i could make the nearly 2hr trip to go look and probably buy
thems the breaks eh
If you are prepared to look hard for 6 weeks and go view maybe 2 cars a week I can practically guarantee you'll find a bargain. I find cars for friends and family and that's pretty much the rule. Also you have to be ready to jump on the standout car when it turns up. Every time I do this you spend weeks going "not bad, not bad" and then "shit this is a great car for the price" happens all of a sudden. Done maybe 15 cars this way, you need those first few weeks to really know what's out there for the price & be able to confidently laugh at overpriced cars to the owners face.

My 1999 Verada has 230,000km... 240,000 is low for a vn. My uncle had a vn 304 that lived well on into the 750,000 km's on the original block
Problems? its a old car things break but just the usual stuff like hoses & seals. VP SS has problems like the subframe cracking (IRS)
dont know what i was expecting, and i wasnt sure what about km's either
problem with being able go car hunting is that i live over an hour from anything in any direction haha... middle of nowhere type of place
anyway, im gonna keep looking, cos im dead keen on a vn ss now
thanks for the replies!!!
