Air con is dead?

I push the air con button and the compressor dosent kick in. what should I be checking? I have checked the fuse under the dash and the one in the engine bay and both are fine.

out of gas the system has a low pressure cut off switch to save the compressor getting damaged when the gas is to low

Yep agreed. You should be checking the yellow pages for someone to regas / test for leaks.

It's worth doing the regas before the system gets too much moisture in it and roots your compressor. The gas does get slowly used up over years as the gas/oil mix makes its way past the seals in the compressor. You could have a faulty pressure switch on the reciever/dryer (shiny silver coke can with pipes on it and wires for pressure switch) but it's unlikely. Budget $120 or so and get it done by an auto electrician with the right equipment (Ring around and make sure there's a warranty). System has to be vacuum evacuated first and the right amount of gas added and the oil level checked.
Make it a priority, if the compressor winds up damaged you're up for a grand.
