Default has anyone changed the material in their door trims?

    Hi,
I tried a search but couldn't find a full answer. Basically I respraying and retrimming my whole VP black and White, anyway I want to change the material on the door trims (on VNs it's that spotty material near the handle) to a different fabric and colour. I read somewhere, forget where, that unlike other models, the executives didn't have the material stapled, I think they said it was fused on? Anyway, has anyone done this before or could give me some pointers on it? Thanks

ive done it on my ute, got a thin piece of masonite, cut it to shape, drilled 4 holes in the door trim, attached some fur tree clips to the Masonite with araldyte, used foam backed trim and stapled it to the back of the masonite... easy to do

but I assume it's not possible then to take the trim offthe door and just rip off the old material and put a new one glued on behind?

piss easy to do, take the door trim off and you will see little bent over clips holding the material bit on..push the clips up and take the material bit off, remove material off the board recover fit what ever material you want to use, use spray glue from spotlight to put your material on and put the board back on the door trim the smae way you took it off but in reverse

IIRC all the later VN's and VP's have the material fused on so you'd need to find a way to cut out the old material and attach the new stuff

Alternatively just get some early model VN door cards and you'd be able to remove the material via the clips
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?

Its easy, I did mine in vinyl, just cut out new material and pulled it over top and stapled it to the back

cant be done as a home job and look like its done by a pro.
My vp ss dosnt have removalbe panles etc.
the cloth insert is glued to the doortrim and then the vinyl is is glued and vinyl welded on top.
do as sugested earlier and get some cheap vn ones with the removable insert

Mate I had the same problem. There are to versions of door trim 1 with detachable trims and one with moulded and fixed inserts There is a solution I went to the wreckers and he gave me a insert from a removable trim I used it as a template and cut out 4 of them from 3mm ply covered it in foam, fabric and used cable ties and spray glue to attach straight over the old trim insert (instead of cable ties next time I will use thin wire) it looks fine as the moulded inserts are concave. It makes it look exactly the same as the removable version of door trim.

yeah I was thinking of buying a set on eBay of the inserts, retrimming them and then gluing them over the trims I already have. Sounds easier and less messy, plus if I ever want to retrim it won't be so hard
