    Default Series one manual question.

I use to know the answer to this but it seems old age is getting to me and making my memory a little hazey.

A bloke at work has a vn series one manual and he wants to rip the series one engine out and replace it with a series 2. As far as the gear box fitting up to the series 2 engine it will go straight in wont it? Or does he need the series two flex plate and stuff? Cant remember for the life of me

Yeap, age can be a real bugger. I do remember a series 1 manual engine will only bolt up to a manual box & series 1 auto wont bolt up to a manual box. from memory there is also 2 types of flexplates,a 5 bolt & a 6 bolt??. with the series 2 they fixed the problem with the cranshaft allowing manuals & autos to interchange. the blocks between series 1 & 2 are the same so the gearbox should bolt up. i am fairly sure because of the different bolt types for the flexplate that he may need the flexplate as well, simply because he may not know he bolt configuration of the flexplate in the vehicle. so realistically it may be easier just to get the flexplate to match the engine in the vehicle,a new clutch pack & also as a preventative measure replace the rear main seal at the same time hope this helps

S1 Manual motor has 6bolts same with s1 auto motor, but the manual motor are spread apart further so its hard for conversions, but you want to put a s2 Motor in the VN and keep the manual so you will need a 8bolt flywheel and with the s2motors auto to manual are the same on the crank to bolt up to, and the manual gearbox from s1 vn to s1 vs are the same, so all you need is the s2 flywheel 8bolt and it will be fine. dont know about the above post with 5bolt flex/flywheel

The S2 motor will bolt up to the s1 manual box, all you need is the S2 8bolt flywheel and the clutches are the same aswell, basically it really.

You will also need a series 2 spigot bush, as they are different. They are still available from Holden for around 5-10 bucks.
Please PM me if you know of any L67's complete with loom and ECU are for sale
